im wondering what is the preferred method of climbing for most of you arborists out there. where is the SRT/DRT more efficient? thanks for all your input.

srt for almost everything except removals. . . I am working off a single line more and more for pruning. Access the tree with ascenders, then switch to RADS on the same line to move up and down. If its just a short climb, just ascend on RADS even, do work, then down. No worries about friction savers or stuck rope guides or nothing. Lots of single stem stuff here, so isolating limbs is PITA. . Maui has SRT written all over it, short of the palms I suppose.

Would you mind explaining what RADS is? Never heard of it.

Here is good link. http://www.newtribe.com/documents/tip4.htm

I use it, works well. Also known as the Yo-Yo climbing system.
RADS stands for (Rope Ascending Descending System).

Would not use as only means of climbing, but it has its place, and is a fairly quick way to get in and out for small jobs.

Srt is mighty handy in situations where you can't isolate a line. Or when the line hags only away form the trunk so as not to be able to trunk walk. And I do find it a tad easier to climb on using my Texas Tree Monkey System. But if I can go Ddrt I go Ddrt. It's just less complicated to not have to change over once in the work area.
