I currently have a customer who has right at three miles of wood fencing. He is wanting me to give him a bid on cutting out all the brush around the fence. Since this is mostly brush and very little tree work not sure how to bid it. Probably 75% of the overgrowth is so thick you can barely see the fence. I was thinking like .70 cents a ft. Thanks in advance for any advice.

College kids or high school kids that aren't stuck on World of Warcraft…That's a lot of fence. I doubt anyone would appreciate the bid you gave them unless They had to do the work themselves.

5,280 feet to a mile X .70 = $3,696 X 3 miles = $11,088.
Taxes: Probably at least 25% counting SS. Profit= $8,316 or thereabouts, IF you did it yourself

How do you plan on clearing this?

I have about 400-500 feet of chain link fence with the same problem. I'm wondering if I should take it down, brush mow it and then re-erect the fence. I've been trimming a little here and there for a few years now. I don't seem to be making any progress.

That would be a big job too

70 cents per foot is somewhat on the cheap side IMO... but the sheer quantity of the work may warrant a better deal than what I typically bid which is around $1.50 per foot, for typically small-medium sized properties.

Is it cut and leave or do you have to haul? Is the brush small enough you can use hedge trimmers or do you have to use a chain saw and trim saw? How much clearance do you need to give?

I really don't know the answer, but these are some questions I would consider.

Thanks for all the replies. I will cut out all brush approx 3 foot radius away from fence. Chip the brush and spray it to kill roots and prevent it from coming back. Equipment ill be using will be boom truck for a few dead tree limbs. But mmostly chainsaws and grubbing hoes etc. My boom truck will already be on site for a few trees ill be shaping up for him.

Its surrounded by hundreds of acres of fence rows thicketzs and woods. The critters will be just fine. If he doesn't clear this fence row and repair his fence his horses will get out.
