No you should not have to apologize. I'm a ase master tech that works at a dealership I've worked independent also. If he can't schedule work he should not be doing it. If something unforseen happens then he needs to call. But things do break and there is noyhing we can do about iy but work around it. Yhis just proves no matter what business your in you have to be carefull on who you chose to do your work. Understanding on both sides are needed.

I just would like to know what it is like for you when you work on you stuff. For me it is usually- bolt broke- wrong belt- can't get that til tuesday.

Hopefully Ill answer this right! I wrench on all my saws! from muffler mods to piston, rings, electronic ign., etc..

My Bucket, I change my own sensors, have changed hyd. hoses, parameter changes to the computer & diagnostic checks, I have changed cylinder seals, etc..

On the chipper........where do I start? I actually took this machine outta service awhile back for 1-2 wks to completely over haul, new motor, new clutch, blades, bearings & many other things!! as a matter of fact Im gonna have to replace the drum bearings soon!!

The other day I had a charging problem with the chipper, so while the guys are working I look like frankensteins monster to try to find the problem!! I check wires, starter, alternator & to find out it was a $2 item which ended up being the alternator electrical plug!! I do what I reasonably can if its over my head I have someone else do it but even so I have been burnt & end up doing it again!! so my thought is....do it your self or hire a mechanic & treat him well, so its done right!!

LXT.............

arborpro...don't worry about making me feel bad....i do a good enough job of that myself.

as for the "better" clients and the "the rest"...how can you not take care of the "key" clients as opposed to the single customer who may or may not have many trees. I have say 10 clients that make up 50% of my gross sales...if they call I jump.....I hate to say it but I would rather loose some of "the rest" to keep the "key" clients happy. I know it sucks but it is the way the business goes. I try to explain the situation, especially when we do state DOT bid work...if we get it...it usually has a contract, start date and finish.

At any rate, I try my best but sometimes my best is not good enough....It is hard to admit it but if you don't then you don't know what to work on.
