sorry it wasn't papac, it was lemare.. anyhow it was cool..

yep, youre right, it was lemare
i had no idea they did it like that, and before they went to commercial they showed the boat leaning real bad.. i thought they were gona stage a ####in roll over or something

it was cool, papac had theres towed by a tug to the mill.. that would be dangerous as hell.
would be cool to make something to haul a load to the house like that load...lol
however where would you put that much lumber?

If scientist are smart, they should schedule meetings with these guys and get some real first hand data for Tsunami research.

I saw that Sunday night, and my question is, what makes the thing not just roll over? Seems that after shifting the weight that far over, and your talking about a lot of weight there, it would just roll the whole ship on over.

Gonna get just a little scientific on ya for a second or two Av old buddy, bear with me:

Anything stacked up and not restrained has an "angle of repose" - that's the angle that it will pile up to before gravity overcomes friction and it goes sliding down by itself. It's how gravel coming off the elevator at the quarry gets that cone shape. Tilt the ship over just slightly more than the angle of repose and the load slides off. As long as the ship can lean (list in nautical terms) more than that without sinking, voila! - instant unload.

I don't know that I'd have wanted to be the first to test that theory though!

Its should be online right now. I watched it last night.

You know what you're right!

I know what happened -- looking at their episode names, the last three were "Final Countdown" "Fever Pitch" "Down to the Wire" ... those sound so much alike (in concept, not words) I didn't realize they had posted a new one.

Read the title and said, "Oh, I've watched that one." I think I missed Fever Pitch too.

You know the first guy to figure it out was not on purpose. Probably something like a Jimmy and James adventure, then somewhat smart figured how to repeat it with calculations.

There should be ballast tanks in the hull of the ship. Pump water from one side to the other and "Instant list". Did you notice how the ship still had a list after the dump? I believe they can move water from one chamber to another.

Separate compartments in the hull which they pump water in and out to adjust ride and such.

Tell me about it. Sometimes I have to watch the recap to figure out if I've seen the episode or not.

By the way, if you missed "Fever Pitch" you missed a good one. There were no staged accidents and no fake interpersonal drama. They filled the time with plenty of saw work, mostly falling. Yeah, it was a good one.

Just kidding.

Ship stability is sometimes counter-intuitive, what with center of mass being ABOVE center of buoyancy; what it boils down to for a given hull, is the righting moment available at given roll angle. 'Twas still sufficient. What happens is that buoyancy shifts to the low side, and the distance of a buoyant chamber from the centerline is a lever-arm.

WWII destroyers could roll 50+ deg, back & forth, ad nauseam. Even with heavy dual 5" mounts up top. Weight-loss plan.
