It has 20 yr old trees growing on it. Easement says Im responsible to keep it in shape. Do i cut down all trees on the road? Do I cut them high so it is easier to bulldoze over? or do i just leave the trees growing so they will stabalize road. not much erosion after 20 years.

Go ask somebody who is an expert in your area.

Here, the number 1 priority is drainage. Keep the culverts open. Keep the water off the road. Keep the ditchline clean or put in draindips to channel the water off.

I think more info is required to answer your question, for instance, local laws and state laws may dictate 'abandonment issues' if it has not been used for twenty years. Around here it is wise to keep roads and easements mowed once a year to prove they have been used and are maintained. If the easement were in a environmentally sensitive area and not maintained(ie, 20 year old trees growing on it) it might become an issue.

I have seen easements overgrow and revert to the owner of the property when they are not maintained. Your legal document of the easement might need reviewed by an attorney. State or local laws can help you or hurt you, as is often the case, so tread lightly until you are informed.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

If it was my choice and the local laws dont afflict with anything I would stump the trees then bulldoze the road. Why do u have to keep the road open anyway ?
