Sunday, after shooting a friend's wedding in the picturesque town of Port Ludlow, I visited Fort Gamble, another historic spot, owned by Pope and Talbot, a timber company. There is a still a log sort yard near the beach, but what was the longest running saw mill in the country has been shut down. I spotted this tree mutilation at the Visitor's Center, see pic. Indignant, I called them up. After rather untactfully letting the person know what horrible things they'd done to the trees, as well as creating an eyesore, she didnt seem to get it and said that similar work was being considered on the rest of the town's trees, to "reduce hazards" I said, " Oh no you don't"! Anyhow, she finally seemed to grasp the concept that maybe trees should be treated differently and with some proper care... So after I calmed down, and started being nice, she wanted to know what she should do...and offered me to opportunity to come over to consult and prepare a work proposal for the whole town!!! After ( I considered before) doing this, I will likely suggest that they hire Scott Baker to create a more complete long term tree care and preservation plan.
