Sunday, after shooting a friend's wedding in the picturesque town of Port Ludlow, I visited Fort Gamble, another historic spot, owned by Pope and Talbot, a timber company. There is a still a log sort yard near the beach, but what was the longest running saw mill in the country has been shut down. I spotted this tree mutilation at the Visitor's Center, see pic. Indignant, I called them up. After rather untactfully letting the person know what horrible things they'd done to the trees, as well as creating an eyesore, she didnt seem to get it and said that similar work was being considered on the rest of the town's trees, to "reduce hazards" I said, " Oh no you don't"! Anyhow, she finally seemed to grasp the concept that maybe trees should be treated differently and with some proper care... So after I calmed down, and started being nice, she wanted to know what she should do...and offered me to opportunity to come over to consult and prepare a work proposal for the whole town!!! After ( I considered before) doing this, I will likely suggest that they hire Scott Baker to create a more complete long term tree care and preservation plan.

Looks like they "live wooded" that tree: they cut out most of the live branches and left behind the dead ones.

Here's the log deck. There was an environmental cleanup done here, and now logs can't be put in the water, made into rafts, and barged. So they must be trucked to a mill. And with the price of fuel, they are considering totally shutting it down.

Wow. If a "pro" did that, they should be sued.

Yep, I told her the 5 trees would probably appraise at close to $60,000!! uh before mutilation...after, their value aint much, like near O!!

Might fine Sound shot, Roger...the PNW is one of the most beautiful parts of the planet, without a doubt.

That would be something to take pride in, if your blowup at the vc lady turned it around for the rest of the trees in that town, wouldn't it?

Be quietly super good at what ya do, humble and good humor about it. Treat others with respect as you would want for self; maintain cheerful upbeat perimiter, openly shared.

Like RB!

Beautiful sights around that area from pictures. Shame on so-called contractor who performed "safety butcher" on trees. Kudos to you RB for trying to help. Hope someone listens to sound advice and situation does not end up as political mess.

Glad you caught them before they did the whole town that way. the contractor who did the roundover looks like a missed educational opportunity; ya gotta feel bad for em in a way.

Is after proposing better than before to bring in the other consultant? I usually figure the sooner the better.:)

Actually, I didn't think McPeak went that far for work...

I told her, " the guy who did that work should be drawn and quartered...or at least hung upside down by his fingernails"..

Actually, this loonie, unlike ole McPeeker, may have used a bucket....witness all the cuts in a "nice' upside down bowl shape....I forgot to look for gaff marks, a McP calling card..

This shot is taken just after leaving downtown Edmonds, and shows the latest big contractor fackup. They illegally clearcut this whole slope and are putting in condos or apartments, as you can see. They are now paying a figure of some 100-300K in penalties and revegetation.

How about this black locust in Kingston!! Talk about a show of flowers!

Around town, they are all loaded with blossoms this year, more than normal I'm sure.
