Just wanted to get some feed back from other states on how work is.With all that is going on in the news about the economy seems like people are holding back from spending.Im hoping things will pick up soon.Im here in new jersey

Busy here in northern Manitoba. Thanks to global warming [ I think? its what I tell my customers] with all the high winds lately I have been swamped removing 100 ft+ conifers. I don't even bother pruning anymore. I just came back from 3 day[ 30 hr] cottage country spruce removal trip with only one employee, bringing home $12,000 in my back pocket.

Thanks for the offer clearance, I got a pretty good employee, had him working for me for almost 4 yrs now, he collects unemployment insurance during the off season winter months. He nets around $850 every 2 weeks for the 4 mths he is off. I look after him and pay him well, I don't have to worry about him quitting on me and starting his own business..... my secret? I don't let him run my saws, I do all the cutting and climbing. I told him the day I move away with my family to a new part of the country he can take over my turf.
I'll be out your way this late fall or early spring , going to take a few Arboriculture Canada Training courses in Vancouver B.C. Check them out at: www.ArborCanada.com

Things are slow here. I keep getting a few referral calls petering in but the adds have seemed to dive badly. Was getting 2-3 calls a day all summer, haven't had one in 3 days now. Not a one. My old boss is used to 15-20 calls a day, down to 3-4, half of which are for firewood. Not lookin' so bright in these parts.

Slow in south florida too. Not just trees either. virtually no construction at all. I also run a carpet and floor cleaning business and have been losing long standing accounts due to economy.

I was very surprised how much work I have this summer and work still coming in this fall. it usually winds down to nothing by November but I have enough work now until then.and calls keep coming in so that's good. net profit now compared to last year is better. although I only started my business a few years ago so I'm slowly pulling customers away from my competition. I guess I'll just keep working until all the money is gone:)

Im in the very southern state of NZ, we just had some 90mph winds come through and for a change I got a couple jobs out of it. Only a few days worth but I have a months work ahead of me.

Tomorrow we have to get a gum tree that was on a bank above a house which gave way and slid down rootplate first into the side of the house. And remove the other 3 trees on the same bank (one very dead) before they follow suite. They are down about 100 badly made and slippery steps....fun.

Things are good for now here. Had a lovely day yesterday doing some takedowns and deadwooding on a farm. Perfect warm fall day and a beautiful property. One of the neighbours raises red deer so we came home with two boxes of venison. (It cost $200, but still.)

We're holding our own but there are long term question marks. We're only part-time too and have work at established accounts waiting patiently while we take some time off to help a friend finish closing in a house before winter and a few new accounts waiting also, so realistically we are booked about the same distance out as usual. However, incoming calls have almost stopped completely and the upstate NY economy is quickly heading in the dumper, so...who knows.

Was busy this year but its finally slowing down to almost no calls lately. I'm hoping for one last good burst before the season dies- usually in december. Luckily I've been in buisiness for 12 years now so I can still dig some stuff up if it gets too slow. I would'nt want to be a start up right now. I think all this economy talk coupled with it being time to fill the oil tanks has put the trees on the back burner for regular folks. But fall is usually busy so we shall see.

very slow.
I'm a Ford mechanic in the Bay area. In the last 2 years, 11 car dealerships nearby have closed down.

My monthly bonus(I'm extremely productive when busy) has dropped from $2000 to $200.

somewhat busy here. Got a big job in the works (3 weeks worth of work) and have work booked about a week out. Lots of little jobs lately. Lots of estimates seems like it's 2-3 calls a day and then no calls for a week. Mike
