An excellent article, describing the huckleberry troubles accurately. Years ago, friends and I were picking in a secret patch when 3 vans of commercial pickers drove up and started picking. We rushed to get as much as we could ahead of them--we picked for our own use. I have boycotted huckleberry products since then. I used to make huckleberry pies for special occasions, and give jars of canned huckleberries as gifts. Huckleberries are special.
20 acre plus clearcuts are a thing of the past. The old clearcuts now have 100% canopy so berries no longer grow there. One legendary berry area has not been burned and has doghair trees growing, and so it goes.
This article is accurate. Right on. Not fake.
