This is taken from the American Landscape Contractor's Association's HR University on their website. I don't think you can get to it as a non-member, but I want offer this information up for comment. Maybe this link works: http://www.consulthra.com/pn/alca/alcapn.htm

I'm curious to know what people think about human resources where they work. It seems like a weak point in a lot of places. I'm talking about how supervisors deal with comments from the people they supervise, how time off is handled, how employers speak to their employees, how issues are handeled, etc.

My main reason for leaving SNC Lavalin PAE in Kabul was the totally incompetant HR Management. Absolute idiots.

The nail in the coffin was being "promoted" to Manager Supply Chain after doin nothing for about a month, but the b*tch in charge of HR inisisted it was only a "Special Project", ergo no increase in pay. I told her to shove it and a few other choice words in the process. Can't fire or discipline me as I already quit.

I could fill two pages with the screwups they managed on me alone in seven months.

Where I work the salesman underprices half the jobs. The climber is slow. The ground guy does okay most of the time but sometimes he just wanders around the yard. Management is so busy trying to take care of everybody he is losing his mind. Oh ! Did I mention that this is a one man operation?;)

plenty of good companys go sideways due to there HR people, IMO they start the chain reactions, and most cant fix what they have created thru poor hiring.

Bigger is better. (?)

Uh huh. Just like blemish-free fruit or a Ford Excursion.

My wife is contacted quite a bit by mega-corporations or school districts to lead "multicultural" sessions (she's native) but it's not for head adjustments or corrections in engrained beliefs, it's to comply with the law. Nothing changes but money is spent and everybody's happy. At least the management is.
