A friends Husky 242 snapped off the muffler bolts this past weekend. He was 30 ft. up as luck would have it. Anyway he had a spare 242 that the muffler was 2 piece. When I looked inside the muffler I couldn't believe that saw would even run. A plate with 4 lousy 3/32" holes! Needless to say, that was the first thing to go. I also found that the outside muffler opening was a very closed off louver type deal, this was also removed and opened up tp the size of the diverter. We haven't had the chance to run it, but it should make a big difference. This 242 is about 5 to 8 yrs. old. No EPA to speak of. I was amazed that this muffler was this restricted for being an older saw.
