Which saw wins? I was thinking about that this morning. My dad has a 262, and I just wondered which saw is faster.

The 262 will tear the 5100 up if all of the conditions are equal (bar, chain, wood, etc.). The 262XP is an awesome saw for its size, but it has the same problem as the 288, when it comes to racing its too big for the 59cc class and too small for the 4ci class.

In that case I will just tell him that the 5100 is in the same class as his PM610.

Wish I had a nice 262! 60cc-70cc class saws seem to be my favorite. Most have good power and are pretty nimble - a pleasure to run. They make a great firewood saw. I can't run all the saws I have now, but I still want more. HAHAHAHA

Don't we all wish we could play with are toy's more often! I used a 262 a lot in the past and it is one of my all time favorites I think it would eat any 50cc saw! and that includes the 5100 imo.

WHERE AND WAHT SHAPE IS IT IN????????

I looked at it for about 30 seconds..........Had in my hands $100 worth of
chains, $72 for 066 clutch.........and had bought this before I got there.

It will be a few days before I get back to look at it.

I own a 5100 and we use an old beat up 262 at work sometimes. When the 262 runs right i think it is the best medium size saw that i have ever run. Too bad the 262 almost never runs right. If the 262 is running right then the 5100 cannot compete.

I think the more appropriate question would be, 262XP vs. MS361.

How about not as a comparision but owning both?

I have a 262xp but want to ADD a slightly smaller (handling) saw to my kit (or one current saw) - I was thinking about the 5100 - Little smaller, Little Lighter - Would that be a smart move or is there a better direction to go?

Nope. I was curious about these particular saws. Now I can't wait to get out there and run his 262! Maybe we'll open up the muffler while I'm there.

262's are fast I got 2 of them the older one does not have a decompression and that one seems faster yet. I stole that for $150. It is great shape with 148 lbs comp. The newer one my dad bought cut about 40 face cord with then put it away. So its a full time loner. You can dog in a 20" bar in hard wood and they love it. Thought about sending one of them to get walkerized I am sure they would really wake up then.

Hmmmm

Not to be an idiot, but what was any of you thinking trying to make that comparison??? That's not right. 11cc's is a lot when your talking saws. Think of this, would you compare an MS440 to a PS7900? Or would you compare a 266/268 to a 7900? Your talking going from a 5hp saw to a 6.5hp saw. THAT'S JUST PLAIN SILLY!!!! Compare a 346XP to a 5100 if your going to do it right. You should really never compare saws that are more than say 5cc's apart. When you do that it opens up alot of doors for other factors, i.e. torque, speed etc... Put a 16" bar on that little 262 and run it side by side with the 5100 in 6" wood and watch that little 5100 smoke it. It turns almost 15,000 rpms. I'm just saying, think of all the factors here. Does anyone think the 262 would even have a shot in he11 of competing with the MS440??? Not even close, I've run them both. Just my .02. Even things up a little eh???? :dizzy:
