I think a fairer comparison would be a 5100 to a Husky 254.

Not to be an idiot, but what was any of you thinking trying to make that comparison??? That's not right. 11cc's is a lot when your talking saws. Think of this, would you compare an MS440 to a PS7900? Or would you compare a 266/268 to a 7900? Your talking going from a 5hp saw to a 6.5hp saw. THAT'S JUST PLAIN SILLY!!!! Compare a 346XP to a 5100 if your going to do it right. You should really never compare saws that are more than say 5cc's apart. When you do that it opens up alot of doors for other factors, i.e. torque, speed etc... Put a 16" bar on that little 262 and run it side by side with the 5100 in 6" wood and watch that little 5100 smoke it. It turns almost 15,000 rpms. I'm just saying, think of all the factors here. Does anyone think the 262 would even have a shot in he11 of competing with the MS440??? Not even close, I've run them both. Just my .02. Even things up a little eh???? :dizzy:

My dad has a 262, and I have a 5100. Not knowing much about the 262, I asked the question. Not trying to start a fight!

+2, but 254xp would smoke 5100...

I think you're right....I bought a 154 new back in the mid '80s. Loaned it to a guy a few years ago, who absconded with it, an Echo 3400 and Husky 335, climb gear and a rope....not to be seen since. Idiot....that's me for being a nice guy.
I've never run a 262, but recall it to be the first air injected Husky..

But this 5100 (built by Ed Heard) will beat any stock 254 or 262.....

and I have another one waiting for me at the post office....that I got from another AS member who needed cash more than he needed the saw....3 tanks through it.

Didn't think so

I didn't really think you were asking to cause turmoil amongst such a pleasant bunch, lol... I was just pointing out the fact of how much of a difference there is between saws that size...

He lives in Montana, and I am in Virginia. And I am sure that when I go out there this summer I would have a hard time getting the 5100 onto the plane.:D

Of course the 262 has a big power advantage. It's one of the most loved saws ever.

In bigger wood, the 262 will of course be faster. It will eat the 5100 for breakfast. In smaller wood, like 6", as someone already pointed out, the 5100 might very well be faster if it has higher rpm and the rpm not drops. But then you can also put an 8 pin on the 262 and the you will have faster chain speed at 13500 rpm than the 5100 at 15000 rpm.....

Yep, no need to run the 262 with a 7-pin in small wood, I use an 8-pin on my MS361 for limbing, at a tad over 14000 rpm.......
