Husky 268 - Help!?!

Recently I was given (that's right given) a husky 268 SE. I do not know the age of this saw, but it's in pretty good shape. I would like to rebuild the carb and I also need an illustrated parts list if one is available. I need to know what model (Tillotson) carb is on the saw so I can order a rebuild kit for it. I also need a throttle linkage and kill switch wire for it. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it!

Carb should be a Tillotson HS 234A. The throttle linkage and killl switch wire shouldn't be too difficult-if need be you can make them. I have a parts list that I can try to copy-if you don't find an original.

I also was wondering what the correct air gap between the armature and the flywheel is? Was the 268 a pretty good saw in it's day? Did it have any problems or flaws that I might need to know about?

If this saw is the baby brother of the 272 then it should be a killer saw!

I think the 266 is the baby brother to the 272 as they both have the XP Designation. The 268 has an SE suffix. It might be the little brother to the 277 possibly.

268 is part of the 266/272/262 clan

Never heard of a 277, only the old 77

I've got a 268xp- I don't know what was different on the SE. Definitely was and is a great saw. I believe the design evolution was 266 improved into the 268 then the 268 got revamped into the 272/now 372. The displacement went up and some features were added but the design seems to be basically the same. Best saw I'd ever owned-till I got my Dolmar.

Heres the carb no. off of a 268 that i have,260-a-540 tillotson. they produced a 268 se and a 268 xp that were closed loop models. they also made a 268 model that was a open loop model. The transfer ports were lower and the intake and exhaust ports were narrower but if you modified them to the same configuration as you set the closed loop model they ran just as strong. enclosed a photo of the open loop model. The closed loop model barrel is made by mahle of germany and the open loop model is built by gilardoni in italy
