I have a great running 281xp. Has some issues. The top cover will not stay on due to the screw holes being stripped out. The choke lever pops out of the hole in the carburetor sometimes. it looks like the brake handle is bent a little but it works.
It needs a clutch also the spring that held in the fingers broke. Power head only. Had good compression and fires right up. Has a strap that holds top cover on

Got a pic of the SN tag? A 300th anniversary saw will have a 1989 SN, or possibly a 1988 or 1990 SN. A 1989 SN will start with '9', a 1988 SN will start with '8', and a 1990 SN will start with '0'.

I see it has the metal bale for the NLA Twin-Air foam air filter (the original HD filter that Husky used on the high-top 281/288 saws). That bale is why the 281/288 HD filter elbows have the two notches near the top.

My 300th anniversary 288 also had that metal bail on the filter elbow....................but no filter or filter hold-down screw. I just took the bale off the filter elbow and ordered the current clamp-on HD filter for these saws.

Man CAD is a sickness. I just built my current 288......................and yet I keep looking at your listing here and thinking....

Somebody needs to pick this up. The current 394/395XP clutch will go right on there, as will the older style 2100/2101/298/181/281/288 clutch.

If you still have this hanging around by the end of the month ill take it. But as of right now the budget doesn't allow. I'll keep checking in.
