I am buying a new husky 3120xp, my question is, I use this saw for all big trees, am ordering with the 48 inch bar, I thought I wanted a 404 chain, some people are trying to talk me out of this chain and go to .375.
what do you guys recommend?
If I do go with the 404 what width would I want, dealer ask me that also?

if youre running long bars bigger is better, wider too i think, safer and when you lay the saw on its side youll have less flex
on the other hand, bigger means heavier

I've never used .404 and have the same type of question. I am a master on the file bench, is .404 a pain to file? I know the bigger chain will be more durable in adverse conditions, as in the stump. Have considered it myself, but have no experience with it.

those big chains are a pain to sharpen, i dont, outside of a bind, put a file on anything longer then 20"
local dealer charges 5$ per chain, my time is worth more then that
