So I have a husky 340 that I really like. Went to use it the other day and oil poured out of it as fast as I could put it in. I figured it was the oiler tube. Pulled the clutch, everything looked fine, rolled it over.....oil everywhere.
It looked like it came from the muffler area or the top. Pulled the muffler and WTF. Muffler was tight so no idea how this happened. SO any ideas for a fix without a total tear down and replacement?

I have an old case on a 350 that burned through top and bottom.25 dollar saw,Everything else was very usable.Probably can replace the case for less than 40 or 50 bucks or attempt some kind of epoxy filler.I bet even silicone would work, don't know if the oil would eventually break it down or not.Could always reapply, might take a month to dry.

Matlocc , I would look for a hole in the bottom of your muffler .
Yet another possibility, but that's rather rare. The exhaust gases burning a hole in the base of the silencer seems less likely than an exhaust leak at the juncture between the silencer and the cylinder. Some mechanics in a rush skip the gasket and plate and just bolt the silencer back in without them.

I believe there is an exhaust leak. Which I will fix. NOW as for fixing the hole, my plan is to fill the hole with a tapered head machine screw, then using a soldering iron, push some of the melted plastic back over the top of the screw head and use jb weld on top of that. I am not sure if regular jb weld will stick to the plastic though. should I use the hi temp epoxy or will it not take the heat?

Here is what I did after a melt, and jb weld. Waiting for it to dry and try.

If you can, decrease the pressure (gap) between the repair and the silencer. I am sure there will not be an air gap, which would be ideal. The idea is to insulate your repair work from the heat of the silencer (muffler), just as it was before the exhaust melted the case. That clearance in minimal, to say the least, on the original installation. Try to get rid of as much contact as you can between your new repair and the silencer.

JB Weld, silicone is a waste of time.

i would look up qtac fire equiptment and ask for advice on welding plastic. there is something special about how to do it.

check your spark arrestor and see if it is plugged, causing it to over heat

Yeah, buy another 340, use that one as a spare part saw! I should go take a pic of my 350 case with a 2 inch diameter hole top and bottom of case. Not kidding, bought for 25 bucks and transferred all other parts to a new case.Runs perfect after retapping muffler bolts to 1/4 inch threads.
