I just received my 346xp. I used it once and set it on a cardboard box 2 days ago. I picked it up and is is now leaking bar oil. (roughly between a quarter and a half dollar size puddle) Did I do something wrong putting the bar on? It is coming from below the Bar nut area. The bar is on tight. I wasn't expecting a new saw to leak, but I'm thinking I did something wrong.

Any thoughts?

Don't worry about it! I have never seen a saw not leek a little oil, unless you clean the saw and wipe it dry there will always be oil trapped some ware. Now if you had a puddle the size of a dinner plate I would worry! One thing I find that really helps is turn the oiler down when you store it.Just remember to turn it back up when you use your saw.

I know on my 346 that if i don't crack open the lid for the bar oil after I've ran it, it leaks a little bar oil from the pressure built up inside the tank. As Austin said, the oiler puts oil in all kinds of places and it does tend to drip off after sitting for awhile. Don't worry about it, just enjoy the saw. It's a little screamer isn't it?

Well, I was going by the manual with the oiler settings. I have a 16" bar

The settings are:

1-Bar 13"-15"
2-Bar 15"-18"
3-Bar 18"-20"

I set it on "2" but maybe I can get by on setting "1" What do you all think?

I'm somewhat of a novice at this so I don't know how much oil the chain should have on it anyway.

I just cant get over how smooth it is compared to my 025. You hit the throttle and it is like instant response. I am sure when it gets a few tanks of gas thru it it will settle in a bit. Any tricks to getting a good break in or just simply use it?

I run a 16 inch bar on my 346 and I use the second setting as well. You have to remember, the bar and chain need oil and I would personally rather have too much oil as opposed to not enough. Who wants to turn around and buy a new bar and chain because you were stingy on the oil?

As far as break-in, run it like you normally would. I just wouldn't stand there holding the throttle wide open out of the cut. Just use it like you would any other time. As long as you use a quality oil (stihl, echo, mobil 1, etc) you should be fine.
