Husky 357 Muffler Mod Question & Pictures

I need some advice. I just removed the muffler from my son's 357 to modify it. Once I had it off I realized it has a baffle in it. I've done mods to other Husky mufflers but none with a baffle. My question is...do I have to make a hole through the baffle the same size as the new exhaust outlet? Or is there another way to do it?

Thanks, Jeff

In would think that you would want the hole on the inside baffle at least as big as the hole that you are putting on the outside of the muffler. Mostly it depends on much access to the inside you have and what tools you are using. I use a Dremel tool that has a cable driven thin handle attachment that is about 6 inches long and about the thickness of a dime. It works pretty well. One of our resident saw builders uses a jewelers torch. Another thing is being able to see what you are doing. I just opened up a muffler on a Makita 7301. I had to hold the muffler in a vice and use the dremel and a flashlight. Just be sure to give the muffler a thorough cleaning and deburr all the edges. have at it !!!:D

For the husky 357xp saw they show two different mufflers in there service parts, one may be better suited for what you intend to do, you may want to look into this further before you cut yours up..............

Be sure to let us all know what you ended up all doing to get the job done.....

Thanks Marky Mark, I haven't put it to any wood yet but it feels like it's much more responsive to the throttle. It may get into some wood tomorrow.

Hi Jeff, here's a video of my 357XPG by Dozer Dan. It is very strong, even with stock 35RS. The log was Basswood and just shy of 36" circ.

Hey John, even with my JC Muffler and my barbwire chain there's no way I could keep up to you
