Oh I forgot that I built a saw (372) for a member here with a Bailey's BB cylinder and an OEM Husky 380CD piston and rings. The crown height was much taller so I got a 2.5mm pop-up out of it and set it at .024" final squish. It ended up with enough compression to make it painful to start. I used a .007" base gasket.

It good to talk to you again. Are you involved in any wild-fires this summer?

Do you make your own gakets?...and if you do..could you share how you make them...thanks Floyd

Floyd- I've been on fire assignment since 06/27. No sign of a break anytime soon. I do make my own gaskets, with just about anything you can think of. I use brown paper bags a lot coated with Ultra Copper. I've also used that slick paper used in inkjet photo printing with high-tack. There's a lot of things that work well for gaskets, especially if your mating surfaces are true and free of dings or pits.

Jason-

Here's what I've done in the past with 365/375 Bailey's big bores:

038 Magnum piston and rings: correct crown height and wrist pin diameter, had to machine out the wrist pin bosses to clear the wider Husky rod by 1.5mm on both sides. Skirt length was slightly shorter than the included Bailey's BB 372 piston.

272 piston and ring: correct wrist pin diameter, slightly taller crown height. I used a 2mm base gasket. Made a good running saw. Skirt length was about the same.

064 piston and rings: correct wrist pin diameter, but crown height quite a bit taller so I turned this one down for a pop-up. Skirt length was slightly longer so I trimmed the skirts, it made a real good running saw.

HAHA!!! Thats what I was looking for!! Thanks a million! Rep coming!

Nothing speaks louder then experience!!!

I am going to check thickness, but I might try to put 064 OEM rings on the BB piston. Not sure, one might be 1.2mm, the other 1.5mm. The piston I have is new so I wouldnt mind using it, but Im not liking the rings.

I also wonder if I could order (2) 272 rings?

The rings on the Bailey's big bore 372 kits are 1.2mm....so you'd be fine with 064 or 460 rings.

That is what mine measured as well. You have me interested in having a popup made to fit, sounds like fun.

The 064 piston sounds easy if all you have to do is widen the wrist pin bosses on the inside, but it also sounds like you got more power from the other 2 pistons you used.

It was the 038 piston I had to widen the wrist pin bosses on, and there's a lot of meat there. I don't think I widened the 064 bosses, just made the pop-up on it. It made good power, but the 380CD piston made a crazy running saw with massive compression.

Oh heck, thanks for the clarification. My mind is dancing with the possibilities.:)
