I'm still waiting for a aftermarket P5000/55CP piston option. (((I'm still waiting for a aftermarket P5000 and a 55 ))))) Thats how I took it. I showed him the 5000 44mm ;)
 
Sorta what I was trying to ascertain myself.....considering all the effort folks seem to apply toward finding the legendary Holy Grail closed port top ends for these saws...or at least the pistons. 'Course there are workarounds for the lack of an AM piston for the 51cc Rancher including cutting widows into a full-skirt piston or using a windowed piston and modifying the cylinder to essentially create the same porting as the Meteor kit, but in a 51cc config, of course.

Either way, and whatever ya wanna call it......,closed port, open port, or hybrid, the 46mm Meteor kit is clearly a superior solution to either of the original designs. I'm just surprised it hasn't been a more popular and more discussed solution for the 50 series Huskys. Also surprised someone hasn't done all the porting number comparisons, (or even the stock number comparisons for that matter) among all the variations of these top ends. Would be an interesting study.

I'd love to have a nicely ported one. Beyond my current skill set, but maybe one of these days I can afford to get one done.

It appears the holy grail only matters if it is a running saw. I rebuilt a husky 51 about a month ago that was found in a dumpster. I only needed a piston and it was available. Cost me $40 instead of $125 or more to rebuild. I have a 55 in a box coming next week that appears to be a closed port from the pictures I have seen. It wont do me much good to see if it can be cleaned up if a piston is not available. By the time I pay shipping, buy a top end and fix other minor stuff that should be done like seals, I will be almost $200 deep into a saw that was free and is worth $200 running. Im ok with that and I have plans on giving it to a good home anyway, not selling. I'm not complaining, I look forward to rebuilding the saw and having fun doing it. I will probably order one of these kits once I am able to size up the saw. It just seems too bad they didn't decide to make a piston for the 55 CP, but I am starting to understand why they don't offer one.
I haven't had the time to unclutter my brain enough to inject enough two stroke theory in order to give me the balls to do some porting. I don't think I have time or do I take apart enough saw for the learning curve anyway. I am super impressed with the guys that do some awesome stuff with. But at this time, its just about like witchcraft to me.

I meant both pistons perhaps I should have said (P5000 & 55cp).
 
Alright...alright I've read the threads a couple times now. I'm a bit slow so you will have to bear with me. :) Maybe I'll try the modification if the cylinder cleans up.
 
Very cool...and will probably happen a lot faster than my slow ass building a couple! (though I hope to get this newest one together today)

But...., 44, 45, or 46mm? (insert rimshot smiley here):D

But seriously folks, (ahem), I'm pretty sure DDave still has some 46mm kits at reasonable prices.

So, I am interested in the meteor cp kit for my Rancher 55. Where is the best place to buy one of these? Do any site sponsors sell them? Sounds like this would be a bolt on improvement for my saw? Anyone done one? Recommended port work? I am currently considering porting my open port cylinder, but this sounds like it may be a better option? Maybe I'll do both and compare them!?
 
It would be an upgrade, but I couldnt see doing it unless the top end is already scorched. Is your 55 currently running?
 
Yes, it runs well, piston and cylinder look new. I modded muffler, removed carb limiters and have it tuned well. I would like to get more torque out of it, seems to not be able to handle much pressure without losing speed. I basically just want to mess around with it to get more power! Have been digesting old threads on porting my open port cylinder, and nearly have a plan together... But it sounds like this Meteor kit might get me more power in the long run? I wouldn't mind buying the kit if it paid off in terms of saw performance, and even doing some mods to the meteor kit as well, if recommended. I love the saw, but just feel the need to play with it! I am considering pursuing both paths and testing them both out. But, the bolt on kit sounds like it may give me a saw with more potential?
