I bought a cylinder kit for a friend to install. He’s very knowledgeable and said the cylinder wasn’t scored, that it was normal wear. See picture. I trust him, why did a shop say it was scored ?

However, I do have to replace it anyway because a stripped muffler tap .

Yup, scored but doesn’t look bad.
Clean out the transfer and maybe the piston can be cleaned up. Will need new ring

A Timesert Bigsert insert might be able to be installed in that large of a hole. It is designed to repair a failed Helicoil insert which would have a bigger hole.
I have a 350 cyl like that. Too big for a helicoil so drilled it out and tapped for a 5/16. Then used a slightly smaller 8mmx1.25 bolt, JB welded into the hole with the end resting on the cyl and gouped it up with more JB. Drilled and tapped back to original 5mm and it worked fine.
The trick is to make sure of full coverage around the bolt…no air pockets.

Had the piston and cylinder replaced. The guy who did it said it wasn’t scored while mechanic said if you can feel the marks it’s scored. I can feel them.

It still isn’t running well and so I brought it back today to the mechanic since it’s an auto tune.
