Any thoughts or opinions on the 61? I just bought a used one in great shape. I know it will run a 24 inch bar, but barely.

42 inch! I may sound ignorant because I have no experience with hot rodding a saw, but honestly, how big of a bar could it pull if the saw was worked on? Without the help of nitrous, or alcahol.

I've owned one for ten years, only in the last year using it steady. I like it and it keeps up with my newer 039 just fine. I just run a 20" bar on it tho. Seems like all I want to put on it.
I've inherited a Homelite 360 which I've only run a few times but was in dire need of service which I'm getting done now. Seems like a decent old saw also.
Is there a oiler adjustment on the 61? I couldn't find one. Someone on this forum linked to a good site for old saws I had never seen before and the Husky info was there, Chain Saw Collectors Home or something like that.

I've had a 61 for about a year. I got it from a fella who didn't clean the air filter and suffered the consequences.

I've had the carb off a couple of times and have a devil of a time to get the bottom bolt back in (the ones that fix the carb to the cylinder). What tool do use us to get the bottom bolt in?

Also, seem to have dirt blowby on the air filter. Other than those two anoyances the saw has served me well. rick

Rocky,
That's the site I was talking about. I now have it bookmarked. Great site. I can't believe I never came across it before.

I just got a 51 last year, running a 18" bar. Great saw and I agree that on a 61 24" is probably too much.

Re Homelight 360: I bought one new in 1977. Great saw but it wouldn't keep up with the 028s others were running. Just not as fast. Came with a 24" bar which worked but not great. Mostly ran 20".

I used to have one a few years ago that I used as a spare saw when I was cutting pulp/logs for a living.
I had great luck with it but only used a 16 inch bar (thats all we need around here).
It's got a repuatation as a pretty decent saw but it's not made anymore.

The 61 262 266 and I think 66? were all built on the same design. I have a 266 an I run a 20" on it, although I am thinking about a 28" or 32" for it.The oiler adjusting screw is hidden in a way, the clutch cover hides it from view you remove the cover and you should be able to adjust the oiler with a flat head screwdriver.
