I am getting a new saw and I can't decide between the Husqvarna 460 and the Echo cs670. Both are priced about the same and I am wondering if anyone has had major problems with either. My dad ran a Echo saw for years and I feel drawn to that saw, but the Husky is very popular. Let me know what you think. (I can't wait to see the replies I get on this one)

I've had an Echo limbing saw for a while and have not had any problems with it at all, as for the 670, i think there a good saw, but no power house. I as for the husky 460, i'm not a big fan of the 455/460 models. I'd prolly go with the 359 IMO. There practicly a pro saw, and they respond well to mods. Not saying that the 455/460 are junk or anything, just not my cup of tee.

I had an Echo a few years back, motor was fine, even when I sold it, but every screw had rattled loose, broken or otherwise faiiled, along with a lot of the housing. It was replaced with a Husky, best saw I've owned to date.

Home Depot, tool rental department, purchase used 6401 Makita (Dolmar) $250 - 290 ±. If you outgrow 6401 it can be resized to 7900... lot of saw.

Chainsaw chaps, helmet w/eye and ear protection, good pair of gloves minimum. Should wear steel toed boots too.

Don't the Echo have a five year warranty? That would help me decide. Trust me, ANY saw manufacturer can put out a lemon. (Like my Husqvarna 359) but it's the manufacturer that is willing to put their money where their mouth is concerning their warranty and support (Not Husqvarna) that makes the big difference. I know this first hand.

The 5 year warranty caught my eye too, and my dad always had an echo saw. He had a 650 evl, that thing was a tank and cut well, Unfortunately I broke it or else I would still be using it today.

Get it repaired... maybe give you some idea what warranty worth.

spike60 is a Husky/Dolmar dealer, use the search function to get his feeling about this saw. THALL10326 Stihl dealer read his thoughts about homeowner saws. Both of these guys pretty positive in their inputs and I think honest.

Shhh; lets keep that between us Tom (Thall) already has a big head!

I have seen a few echo saws being used but they cost way too much up here for me to be interested in owning one. But I often travel south of the boarder and would'nt think twice about bring one back with me if I could get a good deal on one. They do have a 5 year warranty and if you do have a good dealer I would go with the Echo. I know if I bought one I could'nt get any service or parts without a lot of hassle Kinda like Dolmar in Canada they don't exist! What I personally like about the Echo saws is they are a bit old School in there design.

You'll find that a Echo CS670 cuts good, mine is just a little slower than my 044 Stihl and wieghts a pound less. It got guts and goes to the woods with me more than any other saw. I looked at a Husky 455, looks like a saw Husky is trying to make money off of using thier name. Steve

The Echo warranty is only good for 5 years if its used for residential purposes. And its only for the power head. 60 days on bar, chain, and sprocket.

The Echo warranty is only good for 1 year if its commercial. 30 days on bar, chain and sprocket.

Go over the warranty statement, with a fine tooth comb.

That is true with all warranties. I remember when I bought my Jred the dealer said for personal use? then he said it is always personal use how can they prove it? He new it was for personal use but also said he gets many that say that but it is really for commercial use. For me the five year warranty really does'nt mean much I would much rather have a source of parts than a warranty.

From the mid 70s to mid 80s, I used Echos. Great saws. I never had any repairs, only changed the air filter and normal maintenance you'd do on any saw. I don't recall ever having trouble starting one, ever. I was turned on to them by a couple guys up here cutting firewood professionally, hundreds of cords a summer. They ran Echos exclusively and advised me [homeowner cutting 5+ cords a year] which model to get. I "sold" a number of friends and neighbors on them, too. Though I moved to Stihl and have stayed there, at least the Echos of 20 to 30 yr. ago were nice saws. Don't know about the current ones....

You all know who i would vote on, yes the orange one :hmm3grin2orange: My cousin sells both prob more Huskys 2 to 1 because everyone wants a popular model, but if it was me i would check out the dealers that you have local for repairs and parts and if they really want you business or just your $$$$. But i would take the Echo...Bob

I have an echo 510 evl i got used from my local stihl dealer and aside from being a bit long about the middle (heavy in fat person speak) it is a good solid saw easy to start revs fine in and out of the wood a good all around firewood saw.
