Between a 359 and a 310, there is no doubt the Husky is the better saw. It is a pro saw whereas the Stihl is a homeowner/farm type firewood saw. If those are the only two choices, it is a pretty clear picture as to which is the better saw.

Go for the Husky, two year warranty. Stihl?, what 90 days?

1 year for personal use (hint, register it in your own name)... 90 days commercial, lifetime for ignition, 2 years for emission components, but for what its worth there are very few warranty claims on Stihl...

What's all this about hard starting? oh yes, there have been threads on this often.:)

I'm glad someone has luck with them. Atleast I hate the 250 Stihl more.

Don't downgrade from the 359. It is a pro quailty saw.

Pro quality equals happy cutter.

I agree that the 350 is a better saw than the 250, but they are both good, topend "homeowner" quality saws.
The Husky 353 is pro quality, and well worth the extra money in my opinion. Also a bit more power, and the difference vs. the others feel like it is bigger than the adverticed numbers tell.

I also agree that he shouldn't downgrade from the 60 cc class if he is going to have only one firewood saw, and probably is going to use a 18 to 20" bar.

The Husky 345 is the proper match for the MS250.

A 16" bar is all that's needed for 15"-18" trees...though both saws will accept an 18" bar.

I stated before that a 60cc saw would work quicker, but over the course of 4-6 cords of wood, the time savings would not be significant. Given that the original poster says that he is new at this, I would rather he start small and work his way up. A pinched bar tip on the 60+cc saws comes back right rapid.

All that said, the 353, or 026, or 5100, or equivalent saw would work fine in this application, if he must have a saw of professional quality.

Imo both the 345 and 350 are proper matches to the MS250, which one to pick depends on the price picture you are confronted to.

OK, the 345 and 250 are both 45cc saws with 3 HP.
The 350 is a 52cc saw with 3.2 HP.

It is small steps, but if you take enough of them you"ll find yourself at the top looking down.

Funny stuff this...

Not that it matters much, but the 250 is rated at 3.0 bhp, which usually translates into 3.1hp.

The "new" 52 cc engine of the 350 is probably a EPA-demoted and downrated version of the 52 cc engine of the 353, and the last time I looked it was rated at 3.1 hp, today it is 3.2, over here it is still 3.1:confused: :bang:

Thanks for all the replies. This site has been a big help. Im going to go with the Husky 359. Do any of you know where I might get a bow for it? Thanks again.

...Kinda new at this.

Given this statement, it is understandable that one might think you weren't familiar with the bow bar. I know that that's the reason I tried to steer toward a smaller saw. How about you lighten up and get a sense of humor. Mr. did answer your question, if you'll look back through the thread.

As for your choice, it's a good one. As for the bow bar, check the sponsors of this site.
