Husky Piston/Cylinder kit questions

How "drop-in" are these? Can someone with basic skills and tools install one? Where can I find the torque values and such for a Husky 346? I'm thinking of rebuilding that dead 346 I have. I've had a car engine broken down to rebuild it (once) but no experience with 2 strokes.

thanks,
Ian

Its not a big deal if you have a bit of experience. The torque value for cylinder is 8-10 Nm.Be sure to clean everything before reassembly, blowing air, etc.Install a new cylinder gasket the right way to be sure pulse hole is aligned. And there is also an arrow on top of the piston,it goes to EX side.Install new circlips. You dont have to remove the carb from cyl, just unhook the linkage before from the throttle shaft and unhook the carb from the rubber each side of the filter holder.

Thanks, who has the best price on these kits? Baileys wants $230, Local dealer wants $280. Both are OEM. Are there after market kits that are a little easier on the wallet, but still reliable?

Hmm,i dont know for price,im in Canada.I think the aftermarket should be reliable but probably the piston wear will be fatser than original.

I'm not sure I've seen aftermarket kits for the 346. I would sell the saw as is, should get at least $100 maybe more, add that to the $230 you'd spend for the OEM parts, then pony up about $70 more, bringing you to $400 and then get a new one.

Hmmm... thanks. You just may be right. The rest of the saw is in primo condition tho, hate to give up on it. If I could get it running for ~$150 I'd be all over it. I hesitate when it goes over $200.... still... that's just a little over half the cost of a new one and I have 6 or 7 chains that are going to go to waste too. Might just hang onto it and take the plunge at christmas bonus time.

I know how that goes, but someone with a smashed 346 would love to have that saw. If it's clean put it on Ebay, you'll get more than $100 for it. You could also shelve it, then hope to find a good deal on parts or parts saw, but you never know how long that wait'll be ;)

Check our used parts sponsors, maybe they have a jug, and the jug is the thing killing you $$$-wise, just an oem piston is no biggie, Have you got any pics of this jug?

Haven't disassembled it yet. There's a gouge 1/4" wide in the piston viewable thru the exhaust port and the ring is siezed. Amazingly, it still manages 90lbs of compression in that condition.
