Husqvarna 162 Flywheel issues.

I’ve gotten my hands on a Husqvarna 162 chainsaw, and when I try to pull start it, the cylinder won’t go all the way to the top dead center. I thought it might be a compression problem, but I have found that the fly wheel spins while the crankshaft doesn’t as long as the spark plug is in. I took off the flywheel, expecting to see a sheared pin, or a key. Instead, I found the flywheel has an inner piece that is allowing the outside of the fly wheel to spin while the crankshaft doesn’t. I can’t find any help on YouTube.

So... the steel insert is loose yeah?

I’m not at all familiar with these, so if you’re implying it’s not supposed to be loose then yes. Is the flywheel shot?

About the only thing you can do is get a used flywheel or take toa a machine shop and see if they can drill, tap and install 2 set screws.

Half the threads on the flywheel and the other half on the insert.

Yeah, no good. And no good or cheap easy way to repair yourself.

Best to find a used flywheel. Machine shop most likely cost more than a used one is worth.

No idea, but many older saws were made the same way.
