A buddy of mine says he has a old 188 husqvarna. Im trying to find a recoil for it, preferably complete with side cover. I cant find any info on that saw. Any advice?

Alan

181 281 or 288 is what you're looking for. There was no 188 that I ever heard of.

It's either a 288, or a 181 with a 288 p/c on it which will bump it up to the same cc's a 288.

There are some flea bay

BTW, this thread has links to some useful info on the 181

Awesome thanks. Next question. Are the Reproduction ones that I see(brand new) any good? Does anyone have any experience with them? Or am I best getting a used husqy one?

Alan

I've never used a repro one, but considering you can get a used factory one for the same price or less, that's the route I'd go.

It would kinda suck to be deep on the woods and have a cheap knockoff one break on you and leave you with a saw you couldn't start. I've had to replace the cord in such a situation with my 181, but inspite of the all the use and abuse my saw had before I bought it, and the use and abuse I've put it through the past dozen years, it just keeps on going.

Excelent, that exactly the answer I was looking for. AK huh? Lucky man. What do you do for work? I dream of AK, and the sweet sweet snowboarding.

I'm a mechanical engineer and have been doing fire protection design for the 15 years we've been up here.

Definately a great place for winter sports, I'm a skier myself.

Since there never was a 188, it actually is possible that the saw is a 180 or a 185 - I would like to see a picture!

There certainly is a 188se as I have one!
It was a British military saw with history usage records and a packing case (wood) I will try to upload pictures.
This is the sole reason for signing up here and I don't truly know what I'm doing.
12 years late but I've had this saw for 10 years at least.

Um, not only 12 year late but your eyes are 7 digits out- all your photographs' indeed display the military version of the 181SE as has been eluded to many posts and many moons ago- there was NO 188.

The blind making assertions again. I will make one, there never was a 188 but the 181 was a good powerful saw.

My point proven exactly.
A completely different point to my comment.
That point is that drinking rum is bad for you, or me! 🤣
Yup, I know my saw is a 181se, I have no idea why anyone would think differently 😉
Sorry guys, and thanks for replying coz if you didn't I would never have remembered that I signed up or posted.
