Husqvarna 262xp

So I just bout this single owner 262xp. Super nice 91 model. So a couple of things.
1- it’s missing a muffler bracket bolt and is leaking bar oil out of it. Not sure it’s the threads are shot? If so can I just drill it out and tap it to a 6mm rather than 5mm. Or do I need a helecoil?
2- what’s the max rpm these saws need to run? I put my tax on it and it maxed out at 15,300. I richen it up to 14000 until I have a chance to check it in wood.

I guessed 13,000 would be your target but this says 13,500. 14,000 + is a bit much IMO

Thats a really nice clean saw- congrats.
Its a Husqvarna thing- to shed bolts like a chicken shedding feathers. In my opinion, if the threads are indeed stripped, you should be able to go straight to a 6mm tap without drilling, the hole goes into the tank- so be prepared to wash it out and clean any tap swarf from the tank before reusing.

I am not a great fan of tach tuning, think these are listed at 13,500 max.

See what cylinder and carb you have. Only the early KS with 87 ran like they should stock.

The later ones lived off the rep the early saws made.

13.5 is max out of wood stock.

1990 KS 87.
My later ones didnt run as good as the early one stock for stock.

That is loads cleaner than the 262XP I stumbled upon last week. Besides retapping the threads, what is your plan for the leaking bar oil? Did the muffler bracket holes for these saws go all the way in through the oil tank?

Congrats on the saw. I have a ported 92 and a stock 90 262. And enough parts and 87 carbs to build 5 more!!! Lol. Its the saw that got me into this mess. Check the vent. It might be plugged. Huskys, IMO, leak oil more than other saws. Some do, some dont. Checking that vent would be a first step. Along with whats already been said, I think 14k is a little much. Mine I ear and wood tuned and it cut the best at 12,900. They like to be a little rich. Of course, your saw might be different. You've got a good saw right there.
