Husqvarna 3120 barn find

Scored this old beauty today, I believe it’s a 1989 based off the 300 year decal on it. Stoked to tear it down and get it cleaned up.

Any advice from the community about what to look for when rebuilding this old girl?

Pull muffler and inspect piston for scoring first. If that checks out I’d vacuum/pressure test. If it passes replace fuel hose, fuel filter, and carb kit. And of course clean or replace air filter, spark plug, etc.

Any possibility you might have part numbers for that? Or maybe an eBay link? Enough to get me pointed in the right direction anyway

272xp unlimited coil , you’d have to do some research, but there out there, or put a wanted ad on this forum someone will have it possibly, 587 32 96-01 is the ignition module, If you can find a adjustable H speed carb it would help a lot with the unlimited coil ,

I had a 1989 3120 that kept losing the bar studs in the tank. That was a piss-poor design.

It’s possible, in that first run not exactly sure thoe. , the adjustable H speed carb is the key with the unlimited coils on later and current models,

That’s great! Thanks! Working on doing a pressure/vac test here soon. It definitely needs a top end but I’m hoping the seals are still good. Already getting expensive..

Yea , but there pretty hard to find , the 272 unlimited is easier to find , and most good saw builders will use the 272 coil because of easier finding,

True. I was just pointing out the model of module.

Their website will not go into any specifics of course.

Starting to get this filthy saw torn down… I swear I always end up with the dirtiest old saws

Side view of the carb for anyone curious.

Next question is flywheel removal. Got the nut off but I’m unsure about how to gently remove the flywheel.. can’t seem to find any videos online showing the removal. Found one on Dyno Joe’s YT channel but he must have already done something to it since he just took it off by hand.

And lastly, the oil pump. Probably a seal or two in there I would imagine that needs replacing.
