I just bought a used 3120 ($600) and the plastic chain brake handle had melted off under the use of the previous owner. The chain brake handle is located right next to the exhaust port! No wonder it melted off! Whats up with that? Does everybodys handle melt off? Should new 3120 owners just remove the stupid thing before using the saw? Am I missing something? Also, on the outside of the muffler, right infront of the exhaust port there is this dual baffle/diffuser that prevents the exhaust from going foreward towards the bar, and instead bounces the hot exhaust towards the chain brake handle. What is the purpose of that exterior baffle? Is it hurting performance by obstructing the exhaust flow? Is it designed to increase back pressure, and thereby help boost performance? What's up with that? - Paul W, chainsaw miller.

Mine is still as good as new. Can't say that for the 066, which blew the previous owner's exhaust mod deflector, and melted a nice chunk out of mine. The 3120 has seen a pretty good bit of milling action at this point and is no worse for the wear.

Power just plain rocks. Make sure you deflector isn't missing or damaged, it shouldn't be an issue.

Shield

Go to your husky dealer. You can order one for $8 to rescrew in. Use a couple of lock washers with it and you won't have any worries. Same thing just happened to mine 266XP dude, it's pretty common I think...

Mark, your 3120 may have the best "stock" muffler out there. If you ever take it off, get a close look inside. It flows a little better and more direct.

I did take it off once. Looked totally "factory" to me...;) . That "shop" does pretty nice work, it's those Swedes you know.

Just covering for you, Andy.

I have the metal chainbrake handles if you want

I have the metal chainbrake handles if you want they don't melt and you can have that custom heated chainbrake

Can't even tell it's been split, can you? Nice to have a sheet metal seam roller at work.:hmm3grin2orange:

I looked through the port hole with a flashlight and rolled it around under the light to see what I could see. You can't tell it's been touched on the outside. Curiosity killed the cat.

Stuff at work comes in handy sometimes.

The 3120 i used to work with we probably went through about 5 or more chainbreak handles after they melted off..in the end i made up a tin heat sheild,i was told this was not a common thing but the saw we brought from new and was fairly cheap...we where told it was an import from brazil or somwhere that chain breaks did not have to be fitted...and that the dude in the shop had got a crate cheap and just changed the side case! still i was glad when that saw finally died and we got an 88 instead, a iractic idling 3120 with no chain break is not nice saw to have chogging down a tree on spikes
