Anyone have any info or opinions on the Husky 340se? I am looking at one right now that is not running and wondering if I should pick it up. The saw seems to be complete, but other than that I don't know the condition of the internals.

@Tor R

You want to fix it, or is it something like the "cad" that you just want ( so does 99% on this forum).

Not sure I even want it, or if it is worth fixing. I am wondering about performance, parts availability, desirability, etc. I can't find any opinions on the the interwebs, but did find some specs at acres and an IPL at Barrets.

The only info i find is on Swedish forums. And even nothing about parts here in europe.

Others in the family are the 140s, 240se, 40 practica, 444 and 44.
They all share a number of parts but I think it's most similar to the 40, which would mean it has the
proprietary (expensive nla) pto side crank bearing with the integrated seal.

Sort of the predecessor to the 242 family.
Solid little saw but heavy for it's size.
There's a lot better/newer choices if you plan on working it but I think it's sort of cool as a novelty/collector thing.
I'm working on a 140s that came along in a pile, parts aren't plentiful but they're out there.

An ipl in case you pick it up...

Thanks for the info and IPL Bill. I think I will pass on it since you say it has that special brg/seal.

Bill said the most already.
They aint a rpm machine as the 133/234/238 but they are build strong, heavy and kinda fat compared against that slim 133 serie.
I dont own a 340 myself, for some odd reasons a 140, 240 and 340 has never crossed my road, that said, I would like to get one of each later.
If you buy the 340, please post some pictures when you go through her.

Hi Tor

You were the one person I could think of that would likely know about these saws, wcorey seems to have a lot of knowledge about them as well. If the saw was in running condition, or something of a mini hotrod, I would consider picking it up. But it is missing the chain brake, and it isn't running, and I don't want to put a bunch of money into it, so I will not be purchasing the 340se.

Judging by the IPL on Barrett's site, Husqvarna only produced the 340se/sg for 2 years, so there can't be too many of them floating around.

I dont know the serie that much, a little bit perhaps.
There was sold quite a bit 240's, maybe the 340 is a tad more rare.
140 is more rare, and so is 40, last one was only produced for a year, I was very happy when I got mine.
Without having study 240/340/44 IPL I would think there is quite a bit parts in common.
The one who was sold in big volume was the 44 but most of us prefer the 444.

If it was me I would checked of the top end was okey, if it look to be a decent one else then those things you already lnows about it could be an interesting saw for you to have, aint many runners left now.
Chain cover & brake flag, I will be very surprised if not the 340 share it with a few of the same class

I just had one given to me and was looking for info on it when i saw this.It runs really good just put a 16'' oregon bar and chain on it.Any idea what year it mine was made? 81' maybe?
