I have a 345e (out of warranty) that was leaking chain oil. I took it to the dealer for eval. He called me and said the case was cracked and a replacement was $175. I said no thanks, and picked up the disassembled saw in a box. I think I've fixed the leak, but have run into a problem in re-assembly.

I have 3 lines leading out of the fuel tank. I've figured out where 2 of them go (one goes to the primer/pump bulb (and the other side goes to the left side of the carb - looking at the handle) one goes to the right side of the carb, but the 3rd one doesn't have a home that I can find.

Is it a vent? Does it attach to something?

I'm not taking it back to the dealer.

I've attached a pic (I think)

I'm grateful for any assistance.

What the heck is that?.....the vent on those is a side vent exactly like a 350.....find out what the other end of that tube is attached to. It did not come that way unless there has been a real change for some reason. What year is the saw? IE when did you get it?

In my searching I did confirm what I already knew....the first 350s had a different cylinder and piston than the later versions and they did run much stronger.....they did however all fail at the base and leak air

Thank you all for your info and help. I've downloaded the shop manual, but it doesn't show this third line. At least I can't find it.

I've attached a pic that includes the starting point for the fuel lines. You can see all 3 lines and nipples into (out of) the fuel tank.

If it is a vent for the tank is it supposed to have somekind of a flow valve on it to prevent fuel from leaking when it's turned on its side? Like when you put fuel in it? What does it attach to? or does it just flop around in there. It doesn't attach to the air filter, but then again, it doesn't attach to a LOT of things. (How's that old line go? I know where it DOESN'T go, I just don't know where is SUPPOSED to go!!):newbie:

The unattached end is flared slightly like it was plugged into something.

Thanks again.

Jeff

PS I bought the saw new about 2 years ago (or so). The manufacturer tag is visible in the pic if that's any help.

That is just a tube from the vent into the air box.......the valve is in the tank....it's the white you can see around that line A new EPA addition it appears

Tilt the saw to verify that no fuel can run into the line...it should not

Thats strange, I just went and looked at my 345-e, and it doesn't have that line installed, it has the spot for it, the little white nipple but no vent line to the airbox?? I just bought this saw new like a month ago?? Should it have it.

Mybe its a Canadian greenhouse gas model. LOL
I'm sure they are coming!!!!

They probably quit putting the plastic tube on so they can save
$.0005 per saw. It adds up over time and when they fire their CEO they can use that savings to pay him his $200 million severance package. Wouldn't want the CEO to leave broke, now would you?

I gotta rep that one

But maybe it's the old smog device removal campaign we went through with cars in the 70s...Makes it go faster:laugh:
