Many decades ago I searched for a device that could attach a cable to a come-along, had to be easily adjusted and not kink or damage the cable. Couldn’t find one so I made my own. Find anything similar? Other thing I found works for a large rope but won’t grip a small cable.

Very nice! Both design and execution.

As for similar, I'll try to remember to add a photo of a couple grippers I built for stretch straightening large copper bars when I'm back to my desk.
 
Similar idea, but the grip is on the inside. Holds Ø2" copper bars. For size context, the cylinder rod in the last photo is 3-1/2" diameter.
