Long time Lurker. Decided I'd give some info back. I was working on a 350 and it would only throttle halfway before giving up. It would idle great. So naturally you'd think adjust the high idle, change fuel line, clean carb etc. But before i did that, i decided to pull the wall partion, so i could change it to the new style. I found the nipple had melted? What would cause this, I'm not sure but I replaced and it works great now. I attached pics of both the new and old wall partitions.

When I upped my 353 to 346, I replaced the partition and new style clamp. The old one was still good.

Mine needs updated too. Assuming you had to pull the cylinder? Or did you find another way? Haven’t pulled one apart yet, and while I’m not afraid to do so I’d rather not upset a joint unless I absolutely must.

I went ahead and pulled the cylinder to see if it caused any damage to the piston (it did not). But to be honest you can probably just pull it off without pulling the cylinder.

Wiz

Pulling the cylinder tells you the whole story but pulling the muffler usually shows enough.

I could only guess either a very hot day or enough debris on the flywheel shroud to restrict air flow. Might have been running lean.
