Hi, new member here. What a great site. I have a little problem with one of my saws. I recently purchased a 2010 husky 372 xtorq from a dealer around my area. The saw has less than 10 hrs but since day one i cant get her to start. I end up just pulling it 10 millions times and nothing. I have a few saws and been running saws for a while but this one is just impossible to start. Once it starts it runs good. The local dealer says nothing is wrong with it and keep telling me i dont know how to start a chainsaw and i end up leaving. Is this a problem that anybody experienced or i just really dont know how to start a saw.... Thank you
 
Does the dealer explain anything to you? Or do they just say you don't know how to start a saw and send you packing?
 
dealer says nothing is wrong and sends me packing. I pull the choke out switch on compression realease on. I pull it 2 or 3 times depending if it pops over. then push choke in and pull again. I tried numerous other ways no choke then pull choke on one pull and still a bastard to start. Just today i tried starting it when i posted the thread. Forget it couldnt get it started it flood when i pulled it 2 times.

OK. Your dealer is "That guy". The guy that makes everyone appreciate a good dealer.

Your new 372 sounds like it just needs a proper tune. AKA "Dealer support".
Crazy, but that's what they are supposed to do.

Any chance there is another Husky dealer nearby?

2 questions

Where in CT are you? There are a couple excellent dealers in my area if you care to drop a PM.

Did the dealer actually cold start the saw in your presence, or just hand it back to you after they "serviced " it?

To be truthful. I've owned a bunch of Huskys over the years and most have required from 5 to 10 pulls to cold start. One exception, my 346XP that has a primer bulb.

If this was my saw this is what I would do, I would change the spark plug with a new ,one pull out the choke, hold the throttle wide open ,no use of the compression release at all.Once it a pops I take off choke then it should start on the next pull or something is wrong.This is how I start all my saws I am not telling you what to do I am just telling you how I do it.
 
The saw or the operator needs a small adjustment lol. My 372 never takes more than 5 or 6 yanks at the most. I don't never use the decomp. Just pull the choke on and crank till it pops,,, usually always on the third pull on mine. Then push the choke off and 2 more cranks and it fires right up. The saw has a high idle during and after the choke it pushed on and off, until the throttle is pulled.

i find them harder to start when losing compression! so why take compression away to start it?

5-10 pulls is not my experience, but I agree that the primer bulb helps!

MY 371 that Tree Sling r built has a plug where the decomp goes. I will agree with another fella about it needing a proper tune. I know your new but one of the advertised builders just got a brand new Stihl ms460 for the next buildoff and had to tune the carb first thing to get it to start and idle properly. Sounds like you have a neighbor here willing to help too. Stuff like this is what makes you want to go burn the dealership to the ground.
 
I bought a 372 Xtorq about 3 months ago and after about 6 tanks of fuel through it, the saw would just start to run crappy and die.

When i tried to restart, i could pull the starter for ever and the saw would not start.

Dropped it off it my dealer and after I told him what was happening, he asked me if I could wait and they would check it out.

20 minutes later, I was on my way.

All it needed was a carb adjustment and it has run flawlessly since that time.

Where in CT are you?
 
I dont want to bash the dealer i got it at preuss and sons in bolton. Good Guys from what i know. The 395 has been flawless i just feel like they havent tuned it right. Thank you for the responses.
 
Reading some reviews online they seem like less than you think they are.

I'd shoot a PM to Swamp Yankee and get some names from him. You're not too far off from Curtis and there are some other good guys out that way.

Especially if you've bought a few saws from them, you shouldn't have to put up with that ####. Tell them to take it out in the parking lot and start it then and there with you. Or just go somewhere else.

They're not god's gift to the world just because they sell power equipment. Lots of dealers think they are though, and try their best to make you think this too.

With the exception of one of my Shindaiwa's they generally pop in a couple of cranks if they have fuel in them. Takes a few more if they've been drained and run dry.

Mine starts best at the high idle position, choke closed until she pops, and then choke in to start. Quite often they will stay running long enough to get the choke in.

The only time I will try to start WOT is if I've flooded one by missing the pop.
