I have a 3 year old Husky 385XP with full wrap handle and large pro dawgs on it. Looking to trade for either 044,046, or 066. Definately willing to toss some of my own loot in to balance the trade if your saw is newer. Drop me a PM or just reply to this.. thanks a lot.

Actually, we have a husky in the lock up that a guy left. He got banned from Monroe County and the police escorted him to the bus stop with no stops before go. I know our guys really don't use it and have not heard from the owner since before he left, and then it was only to say he didn't do it!! I will look and see what it is exactly and let you know. He got banned very shortly after buying the saw so it has very low hrs on it.

I don't dislike the saw....I just climbed with it to block down a spar the other day for the first time. That is one heavy B i t c h!!! Plus with the full wrap it's cumbersome. The Stihls are a TAD lighter and better balanced.

take that full wrap handle and throw it in the trash. your a "climber" not a logger.. a half wrap handle is about 20.00. let me check my scrap pile and i may even have one for you. cc for cc hp for hp husky has stihl beat. if you go the stihl route there is no helping you. if the 385 is too heavy get a 372 modified. a 385 is a nice saw for chunking wood. i pefer big saw's .....they get your feet on the ground quicker. but you need to use what your comfortable with. 044 046 to 066 is alot of jumping around. a 372 will out cut an 044 and an 046..... but a 066 is another class of saw. the 395 i have that dozer dan built will eat a stock 066. the other day i was running a stock 395 with a 28 in bar when i got to the "big" wood i pulled up dans saw with a 36in bar and just smiled :) and said thank god for saw builders. it just made a stock saw look silly.

i guess my point is don't give up on that 385, it is a good saw. pick up a 372 and get it modified and get used to that before you move up a class in saws for chunking down sticks. if your not comfortable with the saw DON'T use it. when i first started working for my current boss and told himm to tie on the 066 he said " you can't use that saw in a tree" just tie the fu@@ing thing on.

if my speach is fotr nothing what do you want $$$$$$ for the 385? is it a modified by dan saw?

Not modified that I am aware of. I bought it from Dan "the tree guy" on this site. When I first received the saw from Dan I brought it to me mechanic and he clocked the RPM's at 13,000 at full blast with a 24" bar. I guess that's pretty good. I'll PM you with $$$ info.

Tony, I checked the shed and the husky has the # 50 on the side and the bar is 15 inches long from where it actually comes out of saw. This thing any good?

Somewhat amused by this thread, comparing saws that are so similar, I don't think I could tell the difference if a 066 or a 395 was hanging of my ass. Have never used a 385, used 066s, 288s, 394s, 372, 2101s etc.. Blocked down lots of trees with a 288, 32" bar and a full wrap handle, no big deal. Why get rid of the wrap? you need it on the ground. If you have looked after your 385, why trade it for something you don't know the history of? And really, is it that big of a deal, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just my opinion, hope your not mad, anyways I was looking at getting a 385, NYSaw, what are they like to fall and buck with compared to other saws in the same c.c. range?

Tophopper-Obviosly you have not done very much falling or bucking work or you wouldn't be asking. The full wrap handles are there to make falling and bucking safer and easier. For example, it is easier to put in a humboldt undercut from either side of the tree with a wrap, also a lot easier to buck big wood with a wrap. If you are very limpwristed you don't need a wrap handle I guess, but they come on big saws for a reason.

 Your ignorance is showing again!
Obviously, you dont know me too well. Ive done plenty of felling and bucking and never once have I needed a full wrap handle. Thats why I asked, cuz ive never needed one and I didint understand why you said one "needed" one on the ground.
I guess some people just need whatever kind of assistance they can get, to do it like the rest of us pros.
Spose you cant drive a car that doesnt have a passenger side rearview either :dizzy:

"Ignorance is showing again". Whatever, all the fallers and buckers here use wrap handles, they are there for a reason, thats why I like them. Tophopper, you must have very limp wrists that can bend a lot if you have never needed them. Guess you don't one-hand either 'cause of your limp wrists. It's all good buddy, live and let live.

All the saws above are close to the same in cutting speed until you get into big wood.Weight wise about 5lbs. seperate them.385 is a good saw,It is my old saw and I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEMS getting it back from Tony.I like the full wraps, but also run ms440s with half wraps. No big deal either way. :) Dan

Hey Silverblue, how come you're not away fishing in the Bahama's? BTW, weren't you banned for life?

If you grow up using a full wrap, that's what you want. If you grow up with a standard wrap, same thing. It's all what you're used to, what your muscles are used to, what your technique demands.

Bob, Thank you for a reasonable post in the midst of this demonstration of Clearance's inability to imagine anything beyond his personal experience.

Clarence, I own both full and half wrap saws. The full wrap has some real advantages when working steep ground. For the average arborist it is useful at times but in the way frequently. Half wraps fit in many toolboxes better , flushcut stumps better, weigh a tad less and will thread into tight quarters better. The real difference in actaul use is like that between eeny and meeny. On flat ground who cares if it easier to put in a Humboldt from both sides if A. You can switch sides easily and B. You aren't cutting saw logs are on flat ground and don't need a stinking Humbolt?
