I have a briggs with this type of carb. 7BSXS.5012VP 277270 It is in a crapsman mower; intek engine.
the original worked for 10+ years. then the solenoid quit. I bought a new carb, and it worked fine for 3 yrs. It has been in storage since May, Went to start it today, it started right up, then ran out of fuel. The stupid solenoid has the gas shut off. '
1. Is there a way to change this carb to the type with the 5/8 hex on the bottom that holds the bowl on? (Or any other carb without the solenoid)
2. Is there a carb number I can bolt on that does not have the solenoid?

I don't mind buying a new carb from fleabay, but I'd like to eliminate the solenoid problem. The carbs are fine, but the solenoids are crap.

YES, I am capable of installing a manual shutoff inline, AND using it!
The selinoid is an anti back fire devise. Serves no other purpose. Just take the needle/ plunger out and move on.
The mikuni carb is a superior to the walbro as far as fuel metering is concerned. I wouldn't personally change it out when disabling the selinoid is pretty easy.
I swear they aim for the mail boxes!!!
Our mailbox is across the street from our lane, and in a row with about 10 other mailboxes. There is at least 6 other boxes before you get to mine. Every year after we moved in, we would have to replace the mailbox at least 2-3 times per winter. Kept complaining about it to pendot. They used every excuse under the sun. Old post, slush, box is too close to the road (with paper about proper mailbox placement.) Etc.
at some point someone decided it just wasn't their problem anymore. Now we get a letter(every year) before plow season saying they won't replace mail boxes unless you can prove it's been hit by the truck or plow. They arnt responsible for what happens with the snow coming off the plow.
Ironically, since we started getting those "were not liable for our drivers screw up" letters, we haven't had a single mail box taken out in that entire line of mail boxes.

Nice work. Sandblaster or wire brush?
Thanks . I soaked it in acetone to get the paint/grease off then an electrolysis bath finished with a wire wheel .

I’ll be taking it apart as soon as the weather breaks to zinc plate some of the parts. Don’t like doing it in the basement

And Grizz, where exactly is this trail??
The wife likes going to Ashokan Resivoir walking
Where is your trail?
I was a key player in getting the Ashokan Rail Trail built… attended a meeting tonight regarding expanding it towards Kingston and ultimately reach Kingston. Ulster County maintains that trail. I need this as stress relief from the elder care!

The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail is where I do tree work. WVRT runs from Gardner to Kingston…. Passes through New Paltz and Rosendale. Rte. 208 and Rte. 32 are the closest main roads.

I am involved with the O&W Rail Trail also. At the moment it’s pretty well built between Ellenville and Kingston but there are some gaps. Open Space Institute has been working on filling those gaps. Eventually OSI will have it built out to Port Jervis but will takes years….

When all built out the WVRT, O&W and the trail to the Ashokan all will end in Kingston at Washington Ave. I hope I live long enough to enjoy it all!

There are websites for these trails and for the current effort KATrail.org.

That story was in the local paper too... If I run into the appropriate person/people tonight I'll see if I can get more details.
The people I was looking for were not present tonight… tonight’s meeting didn’t have a component in their wheelhouse.
