I've got a kinda ugly 394 here I'm going to list along with the others. I just put a new meteor piston in it and intake block gaskets. I've put about a gallon of fuel through it so far. I did delete the base gasket on it but stock otherwise. Asking $425 pho.

But seriously, I don't know why anybody would want a saw that will put as much oil on the chain as this one. It's really terrible for the environment. Also, the diesel dually torque is quite intimidating. This saw is just a big, messy bully. Now a 40v lithium battery powered saw (preferably recharged using solar panels), would be a much better choice for the environment

Go hug a tree ya hippy. I'm gonna cut one down after work just for you. :D

Oh, my wife has no trouble starting the 394. Actually, my Monkey-logic 394 is much easier to pull than my other Swedish magnesium

Yet just saying she has no problems to make yourself feel better. Everyone knows you just sit there drinking beer while watching her struggle. I heard you even make her hold it for you between cuts.

I'm asking becuase I havent run either but why do you want a 385 over the 394? Is it strictly weight?

Edit: I forgot I have run a 395.

Yeah he's production falling and carrying all of it through the woods. They don't use a 394/5 until they get to a 42" bar most of the time out there. Some of them in Alaska run 42" in 390s.

372 is to weak and 394/5 is to heavy. 385/390 is stronger then a 372 but lighter then a 394/5. It's the perfect saw for a production faller. When I say a 372 is to weak I don't even mean in the power department. They actually do pretty good but the AV feels to sloppy with bars over 26" IMO. That extra spring in the 385/390's really makes a difference. There are a few guys out here using the 372's still but with light weight bars. Even with the light weight bar I hate going over 30" with that AV not to mention the bar gets starved for oil. I have a buddy here who swapped 385/390 oilers into his 372's so he can run longer bars on them. I don't see much gain in that. I plan to run 36" to make bending over minimal so the 385/390 is the saw I need.

A little bump. I'm going to try to get a video of it running today if it will slack up running enough for me to set a camera up.

I came here to learn some things about saws and buy an appropriate saw for the household, but after a couple hours of readings I'm convinced I'm in the wrong field making my money, that I should get at least half a dozen saws including one to carry to bed when I have my wife reaching for the clouds.

Screw me sideways, what did I get myself into?!?

You'll be ok. Now you just buy a saw then send it out for a port job. You'll be fine...
