Can anyone tell me if the Husky 42 Special was ever sold with a decompression valve? I know the 246 had one and the 1994 42 IPL shows one but I have never seen one. I did a search of images of the 42 on the web but turned up nothing.

Thanks!

I attempted a rebuild on a Husqvarna 42 Special with a scored cylinder / piston. The Maehle cylinder was original and had a decomp valve. The valve was identical to the decomp valve on my Husqvarna 55.

Our favorite guy on youtube with a decomp 42. States that it's from 88 so obviously not an original cylinder. Just adding to your mystery.

I listened to this again and what I think he meant was that the Model 42 started production in 1988 which I believe is true. This saw also has the more modern starter decal which did not show up in the IPL until 1994. Looking closely at the video, I almost want to say that the serial number looks like it starts with a '4' but really too blurry to be certain.

I was never able to date the saw. Local dealer could not help either. The production plate was black with silver numbers/letters. The decal on the pull start indicated 42 Special, but the production plate was stamped Husqvarna 42. I downloaded a parts manual from Husqvarna that was dated 1994. The manual covered the 42 and 246 and corresponded with the saw I was working on including a decomp valve. No longer have the saw.

Odd that the dealer couldn't date it, as it is really easy, based on the serial number.....

Scratch the previous post about the saw having a Maehle cylinder. It had an an Italian made cylinder that started with the letter G, perhaps Gillrondonie or something close to that. Sorry for any confusion.
