If they are, is there a way to determine year of manufacture?

Sorry, I haven't looked into this in some years now - but what I recall is that I never really found a reliable way to "decode" those numbers - or at least not all of them.

Although some of those I have seen looked like they could be decoded in a way resembling that of the Swedish numbers, others did not - ultimately leaving the question open. The relatively low number of observations does of course not help.

There is a chance that the number system used on them varied with time and/or what market the saws were intended for.

I'll ask y'all here. I have a 181 SE Husqvarna saw. My memory says my dad got it from my uncle in the late 70's. I cant find any 'serial number decoder' that fits the silver plate on the saw. I guess I can't put a picture unless I register. But, the tag says:

Emab-Electrolux Motor AB
SWEDEN
Typ 181SE ASS
1811 6955.

The '1811' is hard printed on the tag. The '6955' is stamped into it.
I did a chat box with Husqvarna customer service. The 'person' on the other end said either 1981 or 1971. I don't believe it's as old as 1971, but I remember using it before 1980.
