Hello,

I'm looking for advise on my first chainsaw purchase. We just bought some acreage and I have somewhere around 1000 blue oak trees as well as many pines, Calif. Buckeys, etc. No I don't plan on clearing the place out! :) I would like advise on a Husqvarna saw around $500.00 that will provide years of good service in this environment. All the trees are mature and for the most part none have been touched in at least 30 years.

Thanks,

John

John,
Myself i would recomend a 357xp or a Jonsered 2159
Can't go wrong with eather

Everyone's saying good things about the 346XP and it's about $350. You could probably even get it powertuned and still not bust your budget.

You could also go with the 357XP but it's about 12 lbs. and is right at your budget. I wouldn't go any bigger than the 357XP as a primary saw.

Considering what type of material you'll be cutting (Oak) My advice would be to look at the 357XP. From what i have read and been told the 346 is a great little saw and a monster little saw when 'W', 'D', or 'G'. But the bigger 357 will pull a chain better in the harder wood that that of the 346 higher RPM saw.

Oh,

W is Walkerized
D is Dunnized, Dunn right, or Just plain fast
G is Gefferized also awesome from what ive been told.

Hey John,

I would have to go with the consensus and recommend the 357xp. It's in the region of your budget price-wise and seems like a good all purpose saw in terms of weight and capability. I plan to purchase one soon to fill the gap between my 346xp and my 288xplite. The 346 is an awesome saw but really designed for limbing and small stuff where you are looking for quick bursts of power. It will cut through 12" plus but can lug a bit. Good Luck and happy cutting.
