Ok , I cant seem to find a thread about it so I will just go ahead and ask. Which do you prefer , Husqvarna chain or Stihl chain? Any problems with stretch and last , is Baileys Stihl to Husky adapter the only available one or is there others out there that will allow me to use a Stihl bar and chain on the Husqvarna's I have. Personally I love the Stihl chain , never a problem.

I use the Stihl Bars when purchased new but then I switch over to the Woodsman now Woodsland Pro bars, I also use skip chain from Oregon or the Baileys version I think it's also called the woodlands chain. The bar for sure is so much more durable and longer lansting, I also use a bar rail grinder and bar closer to dress the bars true again, but you have to know when it's just time to retire the bar and start over again with new sprocket n chain. Go through a good amount of sprockets and periodically dress the bars true. Seems to work real well, I dont buy much bars and reuse many over and over. I cut and spin my own chain so it's so easy to maintain. I will also turn bars around to get different wear. As for the stihl chain vs woodland chain, Ive tried oregon as well, and man I cant see any difference so I buy the woodland pro chain skip chain it is cheaper than Oregon and Stihl. Im happy. :msp_sneaky:

Now theres something I wold really like to do , cut and spin my own chain BUT I live in Hawaii. Shipping kills on those 100ft rolls. As for a bar closer , I NEED to get one and start dressing the bars I have true again.I have always used Stihl chain but will soon have to try the Woodland Pro chain to try and save a few $$.

AND... For an extra 100 points what's your favorite bar/chain combo to run on a 200T???

I'm using a 16" bar and lookin to dial in the right combo

I realize personal preference will play a big role, just curious what y'all runnin. :arg: SORRY!

no sorry needed! I too run a 16in bar with Stihl chain. I find the 200t has enough power and torque with the 16 and make a great combo. Anything smaller then a 16 on a 200t might as well be set up on the 192t or 338xpt. Just my two cents.

12" Stihl bar and full chisel Stihl chain on my 200, cuts like a light sabre even in Ozzie gum, costs more but lasts me longer.

Stihl chain is my choice on whatever saw but I'll use Carlton or Oregon happily but find they need tensioning more.

Different people, different results.

Isn't Husqvarna b/c made by Oregon?

As for the 020 or 200T I always use a 16" bar, You can do anything with it and then some more! why shorten your reach and ability with such a climbing saw, it makes life easy on you up there having the best of the best! Now bars, to be honest I dont think that matters so much due to the ( I dont cut with the climbing saw on ground ever ) so It only gets used in the trees, so this makes the bars last long, but I have used the ARBOR PRO from Bailey's and have been very happy with it, but couldnt really tell if there was a big difference from stock stihl bars? again Maintenance is key, keep your bars true, by grinding burrs off , closing gaps slightly and I will change sprocket when putting on new chain. I would rather spend the little $$ on sprockets, chains and grinding time then the cost of bars more frequently.

For me 12" gives the best balance, cut speed, throttle response and I prefer it, got a 14" if I need it. Maybe that's why the 200 I bought in 2003/4 still runs like new. The company mechanic told me in 2001 that longer bars just kill them quicker because the longer your bar then the bigger the wood. He was looking after all the machines for at least half a dozen full time tree crews so I took his word for it. Then again I was the only one who stripped and cleaned my saw weekly. Some bloke told me once that he ran 18" on his ms200, maybe he did but I wouldn't. Its all personal preference
