It seems that no matter what I do I always get my rope tangled up! That stupid little twig that has me hoisting up all 200' feet of my stablebraid in this python wrapped monster ball of rope or the little bit of bark hanging up my climbing line and getting it all hung up. Its maddening! Don't even get me started on my problems with throwline! I am the Tangler.

I feel your pain. You can drop one single twig out of the tree, it will land right in your rope and turn it into this gnarled mess you have to either haul all the way up or yell for a ground guy to untangle for you. :chainsaw:

rope bags really help. they keep the half of that python that you dont used tucked neatly away. kinda like a big condom lol.

I use an 80' piece for everything that I can so it is easier to move around and untangle.

When it comes to the tangles with throwline....

Zing-it takes the cake. I can almost sit and watch it tie it's self into knots.

On low throws I use slick line. Never have a problem.

I am the DEtangler!!

Spent a year commercial fishing with my hubby, 130lb test handlines down over 100', when you've detangled THAT, anything else is cake dude. My fee is negotiable...

hey silvermaple, you need to climb with less rope. 200 ft of rope? are you going up a hundred feet?

i use my 70 ft daily. rarely use my 150fter unless its pruning a big tree.

i use the short rope because its so much easier to move in the tree.

maybe cut your 200ft rope at 80ft so now you have a 80 and 120 ft rope and then buy another 200 ft for the bigger tree's.

and i will be dead honest here on this one, i had to jump a couple feet out of the tree today because my shortie was too short. lol. so make sure you pick the right length when you go up.

good luck

OD, that's one of my favorite moves, I will just pull my friction hitch over the end of my line and free fall the last couple feet. I think it looks like you really know what your doing when you do it, lol. Hit the ground like you just fell out of the tree, I love it. 80 footer is my favorite, 120 get used quite a bit too.

Tangles

I guess you guys don't double crotch much. I was in a 90' black oak today.
My tie in was at 70 ft and I just had a few feet of rope to spare on my 150 ft line. Long limb walks had to double crotch, then drop down to the lead below me for more deadwood. I only had 2 feet between each friction hitch before I was done. Coiling the rope for storage puts a twist into it ,get a bag as suggested. You can do more with a long rope than a short one. Its also a direct decent to the ground if you get hurt or run into a hornets nest!!
