i beam twist

I didn't know a lot about hydraulics when I was building my splitter, but a wise old man that did told me that I had enough HP to twist my beam. Here is what I came up with. Mine is a little different, I believe it is a H beam. 2 pieces of 1/4" plate down both sides the length of the beam. Offset from the edge enough to allow for the slide room to hang on. The piece on the far right is just a small piece of plate for the jack leg to mount on.
All splitter beams are H style beams. I-beams are mainly used for crane rails and have very narrow flanges and very thick webs and are very very heavy steel. (they look similar to railway rails)
As a steel designer I know this first hand and I work with all kinds of steel beams, columns and metals.
Most beams use for splitters are called wide-flange steel beams. They can be extruded in one piece or welded plate to make up the profile.
You can add steel plates to each side of the web as well as inside the flanges to help stop the beam twisting. I'd say maybe 1/2" thick stock at least. This will require a lot of welding and should be stitch welded using heat from side to opposite side with some cooling period in between the welding passes so as not to deform the shape of the beam permanently. Make sure you prep welding surfaces good to get a good fusion bond.
