Ater a month or so of reading questions and comments on this site I decided I knew enough to make a reasonable choice for a milling saw for small pine.
From what I read here, the 3120 or 88 were more saw then I needed and by droping down to a ms 66mag or 395 I could have a more versitile saw. Finally, for price and performance I would also consider an old Husky 2100.
So, I went to town to pick up a used Husky 2100 that the saw shop owner said he had put a lot of work into. I had my doubts when I saw the chain was on backwards. These doubts were confirmed when he also couldn't start it. I thought, you know , I have enough problem equipment on the ranch- buy new.
So I looked at the Stihl ms 66mag and really liked the look and balance but was put off by the 3 month quarantee, I wanted more. So then I looked at the Husky 395 XPG. The Husky has a two year quarantee, heated handles, is $100 less then the stihl and the shop threw in an extra chain and scabbord. So I bought it.
Thanks to all of you , I felt I had enough information to at least know what I should be looking for. In truth, I would have taken the stihl except for the short warranty.
