Chain okay to use? Yes. A new one because of snafu, trip back and having excellent customer care???
Regardless, you'll always need more chains.

Yeah, that's true. I bought a bar and chain from him because of the deal he give me on the saw. I felt it was the right thing to do.

From now on, however, I'll be ordering my bars and chains from work because I can get them at cost. I could've gotten a new 18" VersaCut bar and DPX chain for $40 through work. I paid $48 for the 18" Husqvarna bar and $19 for a Carlton chain from the dealer.

You were right. I'm not sure about the new box part, but the tip had been replaced on it.
This stuff happens quite often. Through HS and college I worked at a ATV/snowmobile/motorcycle/Harley/JD dealership, a car dealership, and a marine dealership. The parts managers (or the owner for the marine shop because it was small) knew their parts inventory pretty well but there was always some stuff just thrown in by someone who didn’t care to take the time to put it away right or label it properly. Probably what happened here and Mr Murphy rode in on your shoulder and you got the unlucky part.

Personally I think they should have given you a new chain. Telling you to run it loose to burn the burs off is kind of bush league IMO.

Gotta also watch for L. P. (Low profile) saws that people have tried to put regular chains on. Experience a talking here.. Yup, I was an idiot in past life. AND, ya can't fix that!! IMO, $16 for a new chain is cheap to keep a customer..

That sounds about par for the course!

I agree on the new chain as well. It wouldn't have had the burrs on it had it not been on the wrong bar. I've bucked 1 1/2 trees with it. No limbing. I feel I should've caught it beforehand too, so..... It's kind of whatever on that deal. I feel a lot of people wouldn't have caught it either, but a lot of people don't know what to look for either. That's why I feel I should've caught it, because I do know better. I'm not tore up about the chain thing, but I am glad I got new bar.

I don't hold it against them. If they have what I'm looking for in the future (new string trimmer), I'll buy there again.

Good attitude. Take the high road, and don't mention it again, unless they do, and then keep it low key. A noncommittal comment, then move on.. Just a little piece of advice from your uncle K.
