Ever hear of a focus group? They apparently do market research for whoever hires them, and they pay people that meet certain criterion to come in and talk.

As an owner of commercial mowers, I met all their criterion, so I got paid $150 (CASH !) to come sit down for 1 1/2 hours and answer their questions about commercial mowers. I was in a room with 4 of my competitors, so that was almost fun, too. I had to drive only 2 miles from my shop to get to their office, so that wasn't bad, either.

They might call me tomorrow for a $100 individual one-on-one interview where they come to my office to ask questions.

I am hoping that they think that I flapped my lips so skillfully that they want to hear more from me. I like getting paid $100/hour for not working.

Has anybody else ever done this?

I did it for Mountain Equipment Coop and got a gift card (can't remember the amount now). Used it to buy biners which were cheaper than the local arborist store to begin with. Also did one one dog food and while in university participated in a drug trial (they were testing the interaction between two well established drugs so didn't have to worry about weird side effects). Not only did I get paid for that one, but the professor supervising the trial was able to explain calculus in a way my math professor couldn't, it twigged and I was able to pass the course.

$100 AGAIN, just for talking for one hour.

I got a call yesterday from a different market research group. They wanted someone that made the buying decisions for 5 or more cellular telephones given to employees. I qualified.

It was a one-on-one interview, getting my opinion about cellular telephone insurance plans.

They got my unrestrained opinion, and I got a check for $100.00, for one hour of talk/interview. That's $250 in the last two weeks for just talking. Sadly, my lifetime total is only $370.00, so the last two weeks have been great.
