I gave up on the 036...gave up on the 018C...both good parts saws, but not prospective runners any time soon.

I moved on to the 025.

I took the clutch washer and clip off the 018C, and put it in the 025. Then added some fresh 40:1.

Then I "coaxed" the muffler off and found the center peice was broken in a few peices. So I mig welded it back together, and put it back in, then checked the bore, flawless, piston has 0 markes, and the rings moved freely in the ring lands. I mean 0 vertical scoring!

Put the muffler back on, and set the choke, gave it a few tugs, and it popped. Choke off, pulled it a couple times and it started. Ran great, I tuned it in, lowered the idle, set the mixture prety close to where it needs to be.

It ran beautifully, no misses, it purrs like a kitten. I idled it for 20 minutes, and it revved right up.

Only things I need is a bar and chain (reccomendations on size?) and a Bar cover, and a Air filter with the little cover.

I like this saw, it feels good, but I cant say how powerful it is without a bar and chain and the cover..and the air filter...

How much is a bar/chain/air filter/filter cover/Bar cover?

What does the 036 need to be operational? That's a good working saw when running right.

As far as I know, Piston, Cylinder, Air filter housing, Top cover, Bar cover...probably soem odds and ends.

I took it apart a little, and the screws were phillips and flatheads all over, not what they were supposed to be..so it will need some screws.

Good parts saw..one day Ill run across one with a busted case or broken handle or soemthing.

Looks like a new clutch cover is about 25 dollars.

Filter, about 9 dollars.

Ive decided on either a 16 or 18" Stihl Rollomatic Bar, with corresponding Oilomatic Chain.

Dont know what all the "Omatics" are about, but Im sure its expensive...:(

Looks like about 75 bucks out the door, give or take, assuming I get all new parts.

Thats not a bad deal..a good running, good looking 025 for 75 dollars.

Thats a good deal, I would put a 16 on that little dude and commence to cuttin up some limbs with it.

They're pretty handy little saws all in all.

Chuck

I could have used it to drop trees after Ivan. I did all I did with a homelite XL, with a 16" bar/chain.

You should be able to get a used sprocket cover fairly cheap too. Any non C off of an 017/018/021/023/025 and related MS models will work i believe.

Are you interested in selling that 036? I am looking for a project 034/036.
