As a lot of you know, tree work isn't always my main source of income. Lately I have been focusing on Wind Energy, as in small wind for home/ranch/residential as well as municipality/university size units.
With that in mind, I begin this story.
I was cutting some 4x4's with my MS200T a couple of weekends ago for my cousin down here in OK. I had to run into town for some odds and ends from the hardware store, and took off in the pickup, completely oblivious to the fact that a) the tailgate was down, and b) the little saw was sitting on the tailgate.
(it was STUPID hot that day and I wasn't thinking, but excuses are like a s s h o l e s...)
Well, I realized when I got into town that the saw was gone. Drove the country road I came in on literally 7 times looking for it. Asked around with the local ranchers, no one had seen it. Filled out a missing property report at the County Court/Mayor's Office/Water Department/Department of Public Works, and even made up a little flyer offering a reward ($300) for it's safe return. Checked the local pawn shops. Nothing.
So, I get a call last week that I need to be up in Enid, bout 300 miles away, to meet with a John Deere dealer who sells turbines. They need a 100kW turbine (pretty big for 'small wind') installed for a vo-tech school and I'm the man for the job. After my meeting I'm walking out, and see a wall of orange Stihl equipment.
I mentioned that I lost my MS200T, and that I need to order a new one. Manager says whatever I want at dealer cost, but shhh dont tell Stihl. Needless to say I was pretty damn happy about that. Got a new climbing saw, two 361s and an 880 on order. I CANT WAIT.
Oh, and I've got four 100kW turbines to install, two 50kW turbines to install, fifteen 20kW turbines to install, AND have to submit a blanket proposal (plus incidentals/travel/etc) to become sole turbine installer for their 10 John Deere dealerships in Oklahoma.
I guess things happen for a reason...
