As a lot of you know, tree work isn't always my main source of income. Lately I have been focusing on Wind Energy, as in small wind for home/ranch/residential as well as municipality/university size units.

With that in mind, I begin this story.

I was cutting some 4x4's with my MS200T a couple of weekends ago for my cousin down here in OK. I had to run into town for some odds and ends from the hardware store, and took off in the pickup, completely oblivious to the fact that a) the tailgate was down, and b) the little saw was sitting on the tailgate.

(it was STUPID hot that day and I wasn't thinking, but excuses are like a s s h o l e s...)

Well, I realized when I got into town that the saw was gone. Drove the country road I came in on literally 7 times looking for it. Asked around with the local ranchers, no one had seen it. Filled out a missing property report at the County Court/Mayor's Office/Water Department/Department of Public Works, and even made up a little flyer offering a reward ($300) for it's safe return. Checked the local pawn shops. Nothing.

So, I get a call last week that I need to be up in Enid, bout 300 miles away, to meet with a John Deere dealer who sells turbines. They need a 100kW turbine (pretty big for 'small wind') installed for a vo-tech school and I'm the man for the job. After my meeting I'm walking out, and see a wall of orange Stihl equipment.

I mentioned that I lost my MS200T, and that I need to order a new one. Manager says whatever I want at dealer cost, but shhh dont tell Stihl. Needless to say I was pretty damn happy about that. Got a new climbing saw, two 361s and an 880 on order. I CANT WAIT.

Oh, and I've got four 100kW turbines to install, two 50kW turbines to install, fifteen 20kW turbines to install, AND have to submit a blanket proposal (plus incidentals/travel/etc) to become sole turbine installer for their 10 John Deere dealerships in Oklahoma.

I guess things happen for a reason...

Timber,

Just in case ya havn't heard.

Play your cards right, and be nice. Use LOTS of office speak, and repeat backs( I.E. three way communication) and ya might find yourself as a head mucketty muck with Excellon, retirement, a whopper pension, and a cranky menopausal secretary. LOL!!!

No telling what's gonna happen, but Excellon has deep pockets and is aggressive when they move, and it looks like you're in on the ground floor without knowing it.:clap:

Stay safe!

Oh Dinger, I KNOW I'm on the ground floor, and I'm excited about that. I have been in commercial wind power for the last 3 years, and these little ones are a cakewalk after putting up 400-footers.

By sheer willpower alone I'm going to make this work. I'm pretty aggressive, and I hate the word "no"

Excellon will likely be leaning hard on the existing contractors regionally, but make a few contacts that have insight, and keep your ear open to thier internal expansion that WILL follow.

Excellon is kinda goofy with the multiple layers of management and all, but I can't see them NOT bringing the most essential Kraft labor "in house" on something like this, as there is too much at stake.

Congrats again man!!

Stay safe!

The old saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Sounds like ya got a whole lemonade stand! Good Deal!!!! I think a lot of times you reap what you sow and people get what they deserve. You're living right!

They sure are like #######s and like #######s you still have to use them... or else you end up looking like a complete butthole.

Ya gotta make yourself do a walk around ( the trucks) everytime it gets moved.

Yeah Dan,

I effed up big time. I am usually much more aware of my surroundings. This is the first time I have damaged/lost one of my saws. Usually its the hands that are destroying my gear.

I just wasn't thinking. Good thing it was a saw on the back of a truck and not a live 115kV line up in the air... I could be dead.

All in all it's gonna work out though.

I never will forget the time I was making a short dump with this yo yo who had talked me into climbing for him onetime. I told him I had a free dump but he didn't want to drive the 10 or so miles to it's location. He set his saws on the ground, tied the drag line off and ran right over his saws when he drove out from under the brush.

Most expensive free dump I ever saw...

You are weird, in a good way, but, weird! You would be the guy at the campfires telling good stories.
Jeff :)

I don't normally travel that far. I would for a friend or for the right job but I mostly work the Tulsa area. I will work the OKC area occasionally. I have family there and don't mind traveling the hour and a half to see them if I get a call from that area. I think Lawton is in Blackened Timber's locale though.

WTF is this guy talkin bout...

Those are some very positive turnings of events - the kind that most people dream about. There may have been a few people that ran out, and "lost" a saw just to see if the saw fairy would put some new ones and a big contract/s under their pillows..

I get some work in Lawton, not tree work though- power. If your interested, holler at me.

I rented a house near a huge wind farm in Medicine Park when I was out there for artillery school. That wind farm seemed to double in size while I was there.
