I took the side cover off that 08S today to check the clutch, and see why it is dragging. No problem, I took the 2 17mm nuts off, and took the one loose that holds the loop on, and the cover, with a little coaxing slid off, with the bar and chain.

I looked it all over, and the clutch bearing felt smooth and quiet, so it has to be the shoes dragging.

I looked at the oil pump drive in the cover and noticed the stub, with a little cross shaft through it. Then I looked that clutch end, and saw no corresponding part.. just the end of the crank and the nut that holds it on.

Im assuming there is some part that it supposed to be here the keys to the nut, by way of the small hole in the nut, and to the pump by way of engaging the cross shaft.

The pump WAS working prior to my taking the cover off, and now it doesnt.

Would a dealer have this part, or access to this part? could I Make this part?

Thanks.
Tommy-

It's the one (or two) manuals I don't have online !! Picture?

But yes, the parts are still available... and you can get them used easily..

As for your clutch - don't even think.. just replace the springs.

lol, I gotta find a way to get pics of this stuff..

Its gotta be about the size of a nickel, maybe 3 nickels thick?

I looked all over the bench, all over the floor, couldnt find it.

Theres a little nub that comes off the nut (that hold your sprocket on) that spins the oiler (on the tank side of course), soon as I put da dwarf to bed I'll try and post a pic or two as mine is apart right now too :( (doesn't look good for me right now, story later). If its broken off I see no reason why you couldn't drill a wee hole and put another peg in :)
kk, 9/32 long and 3/16ths diam., 5/16ths from the center of the crank. It has a small taper athe the very end about like this "^" That drives your oil pump. You should be able to add one iffin you broke it off pulling the case or bar (whatever). Sorry 'bout the crappy pic my camera really sux :(
Hope this sortta helps.

um, quick 'nother thought, did you put the right nut on? :D

If you want I can attempt to e-mail you the pdf file for this saw, tried to find you a link to it but long gone.

Thanks Sprig.

I never got the nut off.

Did you notice the little cross shaft inside the pump input?

I went out and cleared off my whole bench, swept ALL the floor..cant find it. It HAD to have been on there, because it was oiling great.

Ahhhh I see! Yes, a split pin (?), a hair over 3/4" long. Unfortunately sounds like it broke (age probably, it happens) and fell out, only way it'd go missing, you will have to dis-assemble the pump now (two screws on the outside of the housing) to get at it, no way to do it in situ, an it should be simple to manufacture another, do be careful not to wreck any seals when you do this if there are any, dunno haven't had that apart.....yet.....*knocks on wood* And oh, do it over some news paper lol :D
I had to edit this^^^ as I thought the thing was plastic, it is not, its painted metal split tube, my mistake. Should be a snap to replace. There seems to be some type of fiber seal undr it against the washer too.

Edit> Ooooo ooo, got an idea! Maybe you could drill a small hole in the flange to insert another pin (pinch it in da middle btw so it doesn't move once in), then seal the hole with, um, jb or kid's gum or w-h-y???? Just a thought from the dark side :D
Nother edit (sheesh), kk I checked my pdf file on this, it is called a roller pin, the id number is 9380 620 1730, I have no idea how it comes apart tho :( and I am also going to try and dl the file to the data base here.......ah, there ya go mate, good luck!! Dis be all I can do fer ya :)

Mine broke as well about a month ago. I just cut a small piece off of an 8 penny nail and ground it down to fit the hole and replaced it with that. Works fine now.

I think I misworded my last post.

The pin is fine. It is securly inside the pump shaft. The part im missing is the peice that slides over it.

Sprig nice try with the picture...

Pictures just see to show more IMO

.

I get it now, there is just a pin that drives the cross pin in the pump cover?

I was thinking there was a little adpater or somthing?

alright..

Also, in the diagram in Sprigs post, under "Chain SProcket Cover/Oil Pump"

Looks like Im issing 12, 13, and 14 under that diagram, looks like a bunch of seals, but if there are seals there, how does the pin engage the pump?

ALSO- Sprig, I now see the tiny pin in your picture.

I am just curious here (one of my many short-comings btw) but did you take the assembly apart and if you did maybe you could coach Red on how you did it, it sounds like he has something else going on as on mine it is in there and doesn't just fall off, probably held by (the shaft of it I mean) a clip or nut on the inside of it. The pdf doesn't show how its put together, kinda frustrating eh :bang: If he still has the main part with da hole he should be able to manufacture something to get it together again, one of the seals under the roller pin seems to be made of a cloth-type gasket, anyone out there know about this?? Anyhow I truly hope Red figures it out and posts his method of repair as I'm sure it will help others with one of these fine old beasts. If worse comes to worse I'll take mine apart and take pics of the process so it can be done, easier than taking it somewhere and payin da big bucks methinks, and no sweat fer me, well hopefully lol.

AND:popcorn:  (urp)

Im about to go out to the shop and look for the pin, now that I know what Im missing.

If I find it, Ill report back in a little bit.

Camera settings

I agree with the roll pin answer. They do tend to,over time wallow the hole enough to allow the pin to fall out when taken apart.A little locktight will help when you put the pin back in.I find using a loctite blend that doesn't harden to assist in any future repair. If the hole is wallowed out a lot, then the best thing to do is replace the parts
As far as the crappy pic's! check your camera settings. Most have a setting on them that allows you to take a lot of pic's with a low quality setting or a few with a very good quality setting.
Hope this may help you!

Thanks Carl, I was thinking some JB weld might do the trick to lock it in.
